Pnguin9999 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 (edited) The following may sound like a rant but there are valid points here. After weeks of searching for solutions to VR performance issues after each update and days implementing them. The sun was shining and birds were singing, DCS MT was running smooth at 35-45 fps in VR, with the Oculus runtime, launched direct from Virtual Desktop. Then I installed the latest Open Beta, 2.8.4.39731. Now from Virtual Desktop in Oculus runtime, I am sitting in the hanger with a distorted 3D image of the hanger aircraft, no menu and the background music is playing. So I start DCS with the force enable VR same issue with Steam VR runtime alone, add open xr same issue. Then I try the .exe straight from the bin folders, both MT and non MT, they only load 2D. Why do we have to go through this every single update? Does no one at ED test the updates with the most popular (by sales numbers) VR headset in the world, the Quest 2, before releasing them? And before we go through the whole did you do this and that bull that we do every time. Yes I deleted the contents of FXO and Metashaders2 folders, yes, I ran slow repair, no mods are installed, drivers are up to date, Steam is up to date and files have been verified, yada, yada yada. I love DCS and have a ton of money invested in aircraft and maps and was really enjoying Normandy 2.0, but am sick and tired of spending more time researching and fixing issues than flying. Come on ED, VR is the future of flight simulators, just ask the Military, who are retiring the full motion simulators and moving to the NOR engine VR sims. I was ready to buy the new F-15 module and the C-101 but I put my wallet back in my pocket. I'll be over at VTOL VR flying cartoon planes that work until your customers once again figure out a work around. Edit Reverted back to the previous version that was working now it has the same issues. Edited May 5, 2023 by Pnguin9999 Added VR comment. 1 "There is no problem that can't be solved with the proper application of the correct amount of explosives." Every Demo NCO. Can I suggest that you try renaming your DCS folder in your saved games directory to something like DCS.OLD and then re-launch DCS. You'll get a new config setup but if that works for you - you will be able to narrow down the location of where the potential issue lies. If it doesn't work for you still, you can delete the new one, rename the dcs.old one back to dcs, etc. If on the other hand renaming this works for you, you can then copy the config/input directory from your dcs.old over to the new one so you don't have to reset up all your bindings, etc. And respectfully - (and I completely get the frustration of having to diagnose problems with a game/simulator when you go to do updates ) you have chosen to be an Open Beta user, so you have opted to be part of the testing team also. I think your expectations are a little unrealistic of ED. If you're looking for a more stable solution (not perfect, but less hassles) - have you considered switching to the Stable Release instead - that might be more suitable? There's fewer releases, and the ones that are released have been more tested (by much more of the public), so hopefully you run into less issues, and if you do - someone else has already probably come across it, and you may be able to find a quick answer. It's what I run on primarily and I enjoy just being able to 'play DCS'. (I use open Beta for testing my missions / scripts / etc) I get it and fully understand if you want to stay on Open Beta to have the latest stuff as quick as possible - it seems that's what the majority of the DCS community prefer, but if so - you have opted in to be part of the public testing team by choosing the BETA version - so as my wife has said before to her friends "The secret to my happy marriage is I needed to lower expectations", (poor reflection on me maybe ) - the secret to a happy DCS experience on Open Beta may also be to lower your expectations as to what experience you are going to get to fall in-line with what a BETA tester would expect. Please let me know if renaming the saved games DCS folder works for you. Edited May 6, 2023 by Dangerzone 1 1
Pnguin9999 Posted May 6, 2023 Author Posted May 6, 2023 You my friend are a super genius. I have been doing this for several years and never thought of renaming the folder. I don't know what was in the old config but I loaded just the input config for the A-10a back in one category at a time in the controls page and took it for a spin from Batumi. I'm floored, solid 72 fps with Virtual Desktop spacewarp on and Ultra graphics. In game textures to high, shadows flat, clouds standard, distance high, everything else low or off. I would go to the stable version but a lot of multiplayer servers require the latest Open Beta. Thank you. 1 "There is no problem that can't be solved with the proper application of the correct amount of explosives." Every Demo NCO. I understand the MP side of things. I've been fortunate enough to find servers that suite my needs in Stable Release. Don't be afraid by the number of servers out there, there are some gems in both parties - but I do understand the flexibility that is oging along with the masses. I had to laugh too - just after replying to you the first time I find that Stable has been updated so we're both on the same version atm now. Enjoy your weekend!
