Hi Peeps,

This is my 1st flight sim and I invested in x52 and trackir and I carnt get Black Shark to work, please help!!

My desktop resolution is 1920x1080 but if I run the game in this resolution the menu screen seems to run at a resolution my LCD dosnt support, the screen splits in 2 and all the graphics are messed up. The game its self runs fine at this resolution but you carnt see the options enough to select anything. The only way I can get the options screen to work perfectly is run it at anything below 1920x1080 windowed.

Anybody else had this problem?

Regards

P Howe

Are you able to check which aspect ratio things are set to in the Black Shark graphics setup? 1920x1080 seems like a slightly arcane ratio, might have to force it in the settings there.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

I am able to set ratio's but all the ones listed dont make it work.

The game runs fine at 1920x1080 but its just the problem being able to select a game mode.

One more piece to the jigsaw, I pressed screen print on the corrupt menu screen to upload a picture but when I paste the screen print it prints my desktop?

Hm, that's an LCD-TV as opposed to dedicated computer screen, right?

Happen to have the exact model name on hand?

Hi

Thanks again

Yes it a Sony KDL-S26A12U

Its 1080i not P

If I alt tab out of game with task manager open the menu screen is fine but then of course its windowed. Just found out its not just the high resolution the menu screen wont work on its any resolution if it is set to full screen?

A quick picture of the alt tab screen print

Checked out the specs on some of those Bravias, though can't be entirely certain it's the right one ofc, but anyhow - which type of connector do you use to feed the graphics to the screen? My own best results on my plasma always was with the HDMI cable, though I really don't use it all that much for the computer, mainly just the Xbox.

Anyways, if you have the appropriate cables to try it you could always see if you can experiment with other cables and thereby other connection interfaces, or for that matter see what refresh rate it's running at. 'cause that photograph of the screen does make it look like it's in the screen the problem resides.

Its connected via HDMI, if there was a way to set the menu screen to windowed but the game itself to fullscreen this would work I guess.

I have many games on this comp and all work fine at 1920x1080 its just this menu screen. But i think your right, the menu screen is setting to a strange resolution and or refresh rate which is causing the screen to not display.

BTW, all references I find to that model's hardware says it's a 1366x768 (14:9 ratio) screen. How many inches is that one? 'Cause I get only 26 inch displays on the search but I have found vague references to related products of larger inch count.

EDIT: BRB, gonna go get a smoke and then inspect that theory of different resolutions to see if I can make something like that happen on mine as well.

Nope still didnt work, whatever resolution I set it to if it is in fullscreen mode it knocks my TV down to 480p and wont display :(

Managed to click instant action by chance, heres a picture of the game on 1920x1080

Just the menu wont have it, does anybody know a way to set the menu screen to windowed but the game to fullscreen?

That is really really strange. Do you have a standard VGA cable or something like that that you can try connecting it with, see if that gives a different result?

Afraid I dont, Really carnt understand why this is happening. I know the menu screen and the game are two different programs so I guess the menu program just dosnt like me.

I prob wont be able to fly if I get this fixed anyhow lol

One thing I have found, btw, is that it seems like whenever I get my max screen resolution selected it basically forces itself into fullscreen. Lower resolutions are not a problem to get windowed though.

I have found some interesting things in a configuration file at C:\Games\BlackShark\Config

The file is named graphics.cfg and in the beginning contains something like this:

DisplayMode
{
   resolution = {1024, 768};
   bpp = 32;
   fullscreen = 0;
   aspect = 1.333333333;
   Interface
   {
       resolution = {1024, 768};
       bpp = 32;
       fullscreen = 1;
       aspect = 1.333333333;
   }
   Simulation
   {
       resolution = {1024, 768};
       bpp = 32;
       fullscreen = 1;
       aspect = 1.333333333;
   }
   AVI
   {
       resolution = {640, 480};
       fullscreen = 0;
       aspect = 1.3333;
   }
}

However, I have not been able to make the game acknowledge anything I do in there, but if it would be possible to force it to run with what one has in there it should be possible to get it to run a windowed menu at one setting and the simulation itself in another. I am unsure of how to do that though and obviously - make backups for anything you change in a config file like that.

There is a file in Blacksharl/Data/Scripts/Options where you can change the resolutions and aspects but I dont know if you can change one and not the other.

I believe that one is purely for the simulator executable, sadly.

However, I'll attempt to use that file to get some settings in for the menu and other in for the simulation. (windowed menu and fullscreen sim)

When I set the fullscreen bit to true, I was indeed able to force the simulator to start in fullscreen even though I had the menu windowed. Drawbacks however are that when it exits the simulator it will retain the fullscreen setting, and the simulator while launched fullscreen retained the lower resolution used in the windowed menu. :/

Yeah, do check the thread again though in case someone else here has some ideas.

Oh, and just in case you haven't, have a look at the drivers. I haven't used any ATI GPUs in ages so I am absolutely clueless on whether there might be some difficulty surrounding that.

If you happen to have a different screen somewhere - or is able to temporarily borrow one from a friend or something - that might allow you a chance to determine if it really is that TV that is the problem. The fact that you get graphical artefacts within the simulator might indicate that it actually isn't the TV. (Or that you have more than one problem, which would make you one unlucky guy. >.< )

Works fine on the 1080p set :S GF wont let me swap though :(

It seems like the menu screen is setting itself to Progressive scan yet the game is setting to Interlaced?

The most obvious thing I can think of is that the menu screen runs at the set resolution 1920x1080 but because the displayed image on the menu screen is 4:3 your TV is getting confused and tries to "fix" it. The only thing I can suggest here is looking through the TV's settings and see if there is a fixed aspect or a 1:1 pixel mapped mode (or something like that).

Another option is run at your TV's native resolution.. 1366x768 running at 1080i doesn't actually give you any benefit over this. You would probably need to run through the VGA connector to get this to work. This resolution (AFAIK) isn't supported by HDMI.

Another - try 1280x720p. You will lose a little quality tho.

Hi

Thanks for your input Dragon,

It dosnt seem to work on any resolution I try unless the menu is windowed.

Should be.

One thing that does strike me as a bit odd, but no clue on whether it might be related, is that whenever I have the FPS counter on FRAPS on it seems like as long as I don't do anything the menu runs at 1 FPS - even if I force V-SYNC through nHancer (if that even works at all...). Might there be something like it not "wasting" resources to render frames that would be identical anyway and thereby borking the refresh rate that the screen expects?

This would make sense with the menu working while windowed, since then it's Windows that governs the refresh rate.
