I currently run a qx9750 quad core extreme that I OC to 3.83Ghz with 4gig mem and GTX280 video card. According to BS when I load up the shooting range mission, in cockpit fps gets as low as 20 fps. I run at high settings 1920x1080 on my hdtv but no antialiasing or anisotropic filtering. Now I realize this sim is probably heavily cpu dependant but I thought maybe an sli setup might give me an extra 10 fps. So $1000 later I rebuilt my system with new mobo and 2 gtx280 in sli configuration. After loading the game and comparing fps with all the different sli settings in the Nvidia control panel I managed to gain 1-2 fps. After a full day of messing with it, I returned my $1000 pile of junk and went back to my original configuration and decided to squeeze as much out of the processor as I could.

Comparing the graphics of this sim to a game such Crysis or Farcry 2, it does seem to me that graphics arent likely that demanding of a video card with just a fraction of the stuff to draw. But I wanted to get some other peoples experience and find out if anyone else was getting the same kind of results with sli especially with post Geforce 9x series cards or if I screwed something up and didnt have the settings right.

sweinhart, you won't gain any benefit from SLI.

I'd sell all of your GTX280 and go 8800GT, or even 8600GT and you'll still see almost identical outcome.

For 1920 * 1200, it's enough.

I sincerely hope BS engine use some GPU power.

Please, this is not 486 era.

Even IL-2 use it more than BS.

Nah that might be a bit extreme, I had an 8800gt. Bought a gtx260 and noticed a definite and worthwhile improvement. I can't give you the figures now but I was happy. Not world shattering mind you but it would be a cold day in hell before I put the 8800gt back in :)

This sim is more reliant on CPU but doesn't mean a decent graphics card is out of the question. I have heard SLI makes near enough to no difference to matter but 8800gt to a 260 or 280gtx sure does.

At least on my system it did at any rate.

i have 9850 CPU , 4GB HyperX RAM,MSI 9800GT running on Vista.

Can have frames low as 20 and highest 60-65.

Thing is my pc only uses around 50% of CPU power overall. I watch task manager on 2nd montior

.

WHY?

Since we are talking performance. I can run Lock on ok at 1024x768, how is the performance requirements on Black Shark compared to Lock On? My graphics card 8600 GT is my weak point in my system, so I'm thinking about an upgrade, ATI 4850? But if I'm gonna play BS I rather invest in some pedals instead? Can't afford both at the moment.

So pedals and go for BS or new graphic card and stick with Lock On for now? :)

I havn't seen one benchmark where SLI is actually beneficial for Black Shark. In most games, it doesn't help unless you play at high resolutions and there is actually a performance hit at lower resolutions. In terms of your CPU question, BS at most on my PC uses about 20%. This engine just wasn't designed to take advantage of multi-core CPU's. I believe the next engine in developement will. You can use the affinity trick though (see all the threads about that) which will provide a pretty good FPS boost.

SLI

hey guys just my 2 cents..i run 2 512 meg pny 8500gt's on an ausa p5nsli mb.. intel core 2 duo 2.13. 2 gigs of ram.. my res is set to 1680X1050 and game setup is med.i pull 30-50 FPS w the cockpit on and 3 cam setup...in non SLI mode i get the same FPS but the game runs smoother then in SLI mode.. i also think tht BS does not support SLI..so with that said..alpha hit the nail on the head...hope tht helps
