(New) Graphics Options - Documentation? (...and Rant about Default Terrain Shadows)

Hi,

is there some documentation what the newest graphics options for shadows (that came lately) do exactly? I couldn't find anything and the DCS manual doesn't seem updated on this matter.

Also, I want to adress an issue that is bugging me for some time now. With the default terrain shadows, there is a distinct LoD line, where the blurry mess shadows transition into sharp edged "regular" shadows. The Problem is, that this line is like 100m in front of your cockpit and when flying low, you push this very noticeable line in front of you all the time.

Is there any parameter in any .lua where I can adjust this? If someone could point me to it, I would owe him or her big time!

Thank you!

The "shadow issue" has been there since we've got the different shadows we can choose. And there are many more problems.

Flickering shadows if you use not the flat ones (can be fixed with shadows set to flat on the right side)

Those shadows look like they were cast from a tree or something, a kind of stuff that is waving and have some holes.

Extremely short shadow LoD with shadows set to standard/normal.

Too dark shadow cast from every cloud (you need a flashlight in the cockpit at high noon, because there are some bright clouds (yes, I mean bright) in front of the sun, and they cast an extremely dark shadow at you).
Shadows should be there to give the game a better look, but I have to bring them down to flat to get a better look and feel, if I am moving/flying. In 2d it's not so bad, but definitely noticeable, in VR it really looks and feels bad to see all that different kinds of flicker, if shadow are set not to flat. And they are a way too dark. On a shiny day, over the clouds, the shadow cast from your tail is so dark, you can see the bright cone of the backlight. How's that going?

Yes, the shadow LoD thingy is something annoying, but not new.

And it looks a ton worst in VR (AA flickering, shadow flickering, cloud flickering, LoD flickering, and so on).

Yeah, I know. I used to use terrain shadows „flat“ for this reasons, but that comes with other downsides. The shadow quality settings on the left don‘t affect ground shadows afaik.

I assume that this LoD transition in default ground shadows is for performance reasons, but I‘d like to change the distance for it to happen.
