Is AVIMaker fixed in 1.1? Can we record longer HQ movies without cutting and pasting short clips with clouds and other variable graphics that differ from run to run? Any details?

Thanks,

The AVI maker is significantly fixed and modded in 1.1 so the 2 G limit can be overridden either using "Numbered screenshots" internal Lomac codec or by rendering your track part by part using "From... to..." time setting.

The camera bugs in tracks was fixed so it works fine now.

Now the AVImaker is a very stable and convenient tool to make movies.

"Numbered screnshots" generates a sequence of frames in JPG with controllable quality/size parameter as for common JPG screenshots. Then you can rearrange it into AVI using a video editing program.

Besides I should mention that some camera parameters now are in .lua scripts and can be modified by users.

More questions about AVIMaker... :)

Yoyo,

Thanks for the information that you have provided. I've been following a couple other threads on the same subject and they've motivated me to ask a few more questions ;-)

Does the "screenshot" codec allow lossless JPEG quality and full resolution (whatever resolution you playing in)?

Is there an option to generated segmented AVI's of a user specified file size less than 2GB or do we still have a single AVI with the 2GB limit?

Also, there are problems with sound synchronization when using AVIMaker in 1.02. Has this been resolved? Is there an option to record the sound track directly to a raw PCM format file for manual remixing?

Thanks,

1. No, but the 100% setting makes JPEGs very close to this quality.

2. If the AVI size of the whole track more than 2 G you can render the track part by part setting "From... to" time values in the AVIMaker menu.

3. I never use in-game sound so I can not say something definitely but as far as I can see some issues were fixed in 1.1.

Yo-Yo,

Thanks for the answers. I guess the big problem pre-1.1 with using from/to times was that certain graphics effects such as clouds, weather, civilian traffic, and some other subtle eye-candy would change between recordings (this was discussed over at UBI a while back). Many of us proposed a fix to allow writing multiple sequentially numbered AVI's of a user specified size... I'm sorry to see this didn't make it in :(

Also, I know high-quality jpeg is great, but I don't quite understand why they don't allow writing out raw RGB24 screen-shot sequences which would be the choice for optimal quality... ony compress once in the final cut.

Anyhoo.... thanks for all the information; it was quite helpful.

Using numbered screenshots you can render all your track if you want so.

The screenshots allow you to render into BMP format (you asked about lossless JPEG that is not the same). The format is set in graphics.cfg file as for common screenshots.

Besides I did not mention that in AVIMAker now you can directly set the frame size in pixels and aspect ratio so you can render for non-square pixel format.

I think that now the AVIMaker fits all of your wishes.
