Welcome to Inherent Resolve, a DCS F-16C Viper Mission designed by Sedlo for the 10 Percent True Podcast.

This is a Close Air Support Mission set on the Syria Map and can be played single-player only.  See Read_Me file in the included ,zip for more information.

There are two versions of this mission inside the zip file.  One is a Cold Start and the other an Air Start.  The Air Start version puts you at the refueling track, full of gas and ready to take on any tasking you receive.  It is recommended to fly the Cold Start Version first though, as you will receive more information about the mission.

This mission is designed for players who are proficient in the DCS F-16C module and its weapons systems.  Examples of challenges you may face include:

•    Basic aircraft handling, such as take offs and landings
•    Use of the various radio and navigation systems.
•    Air to Air Refueling.
•    Dynamic re-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
•    Use of the targeting pod and employment of weapons systems.

(It is essential that you read and understand the included mission briefing documents AND the Read_Me file included in the .zip)

In addition, familiarity with US military terms and abbreviations is helpful to understand what is going on in the flight.

NOTE: You MUST own the DCS F-16C Viper module and you MUST own UGRA MEDIA’s Syria Terrain in order to play this mission!

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE

OVERVIEW 06 DECEMBER 2016 AT 01:00 ZULU

Daesh fighters are expected to make a final move on the town of Palmyra this morning after taking the airport late last night.

The Syrian Army has retreated to the Palmyra Army Depot and are expected to hold the base against the current Daesh attack.  The Palmyra Army Depot is a suspected WMD storage area, and it’s in Syria’s best interest to secure these weapons from being compromised.

The State Department and OGA have reached out to the Syrian leadership to offer assistance in securing the WMD but all offers have been declined.

The COALITION partners have determined that WMD falling into the hands of DAESH is to be avoided at all cost.

The Russian Navy Task Force centered around t
he Cruiser VARYAG is expected to make port at Tartus this afternoon.  Refueling and replenishment operations are expected to take 12 hours.
________________________________________

RIVET JOINT has detected indications of a new SA-3 battery located at TYIAS airbase.  The proximity to the FEBA near Palmyra indicates that the Syrians intend to hold TIYAS in the face of any organized Daesh attack.
________________________________________

The new teletype link (POLECAT) between the Syrian Ministry of Defense, RUAFHQ and JACKAL is now operational. This development is meant to ensure positive communications between military leadership on all sides of the situation in Syrian.

Major, Major update... Version 1.25.

K1ll0raffe over on Youtube said they wished for an ability for time acceleration to go to 1x when important events occur.  Got me thinking, "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?".  It is doable.  And it's done.

Version 1.25 features this feature.  Now you can bomb around at 10x speed and not worry you'll miss something important, as it will automatically drop to 1x when the radio transmission starts or event happens.

Just trying this mission for the first time this week.  I have had the F-16 since release, but am finally learning it properly for the first time.  I am just trying the trial version of the Syria map and decided to look for a few missions for it, and this one is one of the best missions I have played in DCS so far.  Love the radio calls and the fast pace JTAC calls.  Unfortunately I can't refuel in the F-16 yet, more practice, and maybe some stick adjustments required.

Just a couple of questions about this mission if anyone knows.  My wingman doesn't move until I'm about 110NM from SP2, long after I have departed.  Radio calls to him don't hurry him up.  He just suddenly announces he's rolling when I am already like 10 minutes away.  Is this a bug, or am I meant to do something to trigger him to follow.  I am setting the radios as indicated by the onscreen text instructions, and my wingman responds to radio checks etc.  He also follows my instructions later in the mission on the Com 2 radio frequency selected at the start.

Apart from that, I can locate and hit the first two JTAC targets, but cannot ever find the moving vehicles.  Tried the mission 3 times now.  First time I got shot down after the first weapon release because I screwed up and got too close and low by the time I had the coordinates inputted, but have been quicker on subsequent attempts.  I can destroy the bunker and the BMP, but can not locate the third target(s) despite putting the coordinates in.

This is the second report I've had about the wingman not taxiing.  I haven't been able to reproduce at all, but I will start experimenting with some potential fixes this weekend.

As far as the locating the vehicles, don't forget just visually trying to spot them.  The JTAC will give updates as to where they see them.  So if they're leaving the compound via a certain direction, just concentrate there.  Also, if your wingman is still alive, you can always order them to attack and see where the action is.

Thanks for the report!

Sure!  Thanks for the mission, and thanks for the info.  I did try and just spot the vehicles outside, but no worry I'll keep trying.  It's a fun mission to replay, and good practice for inputting steerpoints etc.  As for the wingman, it's definitely not a dealbreaker, I just fly slow to the tanker and he catches up eventually.  Thanks for replying.

I've just updated the mission today and eliminated the statics and an AI traffic filler flight to hopefully solve the issue you're having.

I haven't experienced the problem myself yet, so I hope this fixes it.  If you do fly the new version, please let me know if the issue is solved!

Hey Sedlo,

Just ran the updated mission a few times to test out the wingman departing.  It seems to me that he just departs at a set time, rather than being triggered when I move.  I can be in any location and he always leaves about the same time.  Taxi roll begins around 04:18:20 and takeoff roll begins around 04:19:40.  Doesn't matter if I'm 50 miles away, circling the airport or sitting at the hold short point.  I always use stored heading to align my INS, would that maybe be causing me to leave too soon?

No, it shouldn't matter what kind of alignment you do.  I'll try again.

@scotth6thank you, thank you!  The detailed report led me to find the answer, and that is the AI helo flight that is buzzing around at mission start.  They were preventing the wingman from taxiing.

New version 2024-04-26B is up now!

Thanks again for your report.

Brilliant mate!  Just tried the new version out, and the wingman is following perfectly.  Just one minor issue I noticed.  There seems to be two statics on the same spot in the parking spot to the RHS of the wingman.  One jet on top of the other.  Sorry about the crappy screenshot, I was in VR.
