Hello! I purchased "the 29" about a year ago and have had nothing but problems with it since i first got it... the main issue is the lack of any software to calibrate it. I was wondering if anyone else who owns this stick could possibly lend some help? I've contacted the seller several times. But he was fairly ill and i fear he may not be in the business anymore.

Have you tried to calibrate with the default tool in Windows?
Apart from that. How's the stick?
Do you think it's possible to mod the grip to fit Virpil/TM?

Cheers!

As far as i know, there is no way to set a deadzone in the basic windows configure tool....

As for compatibility with other devices, i think this might be the single LEAST compatible stick you could ever possibly buy if you want it to work contemporary stuff on the market.

Which is the main reason i bought it !

they come standard with a 16 pin connector. though i asked specifically to get a 19 pin connector with mine, so i could eventually swap the grip out for an original MiG-21 stick whenever i can track one down. (this is a modification he's done for several people in the past)

so... unless you can get thrustmaster or virpil to start manufacturing KPE soviet connector adapters, i think you're out of luck 😛

And as for using it, its fantastic. the weight is unreal. I have trouble moving the thing sometimes. And all the buttons and triggers are weighty and solid. Though if you're someone who likes quick, clicky inputs, its far away from that. It has an incredible amount of travel too. you really need to put your body into using it. Which i LOVE. its completely unmatched compared to other sticks on the market, which are clearly designed to be more for gaming. This stick, though not "realistic" feeling, really does come closer than anything else i've personally used. If you've ever handled a yoke in an old model cessna, its much closer to that. It really lacks any feeling of being a peripheral. in design, use and appearance. I really adore it.

Ah, I see. I don't want no deadzones, but after reading the rest, I can see why you might want one with this stick!

Haha! Good one! The reason I ask is that eventually I'd want it on an FFB base.

Thanks for the reply. That was great info and have me intrigued.

I gather you have asked on Facebook?

Cheers!

His email is on his facebook page, i didn't actually contact him on there as I haven't used facebook in over a decade.

He was very quick and open to responses early on. And even made the modifications i asked for free of charge (I also had the "china-hat" removed in favor of a button, to more closely mimic the MiG-21.

Unfortunately, as mentioned in the original post. He was unwell. If i recall, I believe he had started to go blind. Ontop of another serious issue. He originally quoted me 6 months to get the stick built (he makes them to order) and it took me nearly a full year to get mine.

He was very upfront and forward about it. and quick to reply. And he doesn't take the full payment until the stick is shipped. But he hasn't replied to a single email I've sent him asking about the software issues I'm having. And if I recall, he hadn't updated the facebook page in over a year either.

If you contact him, let me know if you get a reply! I'm less concerned about the issue I'm facing, and simply hope the fella is still alive !

Love that picture!

And yes, health above all! 🤞🏻

Since its a homemade stick do you have any idea what electronics its using? Is it MMJOY2, freejoy, Leo Bodnar board or something custom?

Can you take a picture of the pcb? If you know what it's controlled with it's possible to try and flash the firmware

Hello! so, i don't know the first thing aboutnull electronics. When its plugged in, it simply shows up as "The29"

as for the PCB, i'm not sure which combo of numbers you need to identify it. its glued in place, so i don't want to flip it unless I have too. But I will if you need me too.

Thanks!

You could start with calibrating through that Windows tool, unless you've already done it. Won't give you a deadzone unfortunately.

yeah i've calibrated it several times. the problem is that the stick is very sensitive, but has such a large area of movement, that just the small bit of wobble when its centering is registered in game.. I can set in game deadzones, obviously. But its frustrating to have to set up for every game, and every module i use. especially since I have to do it over again when i swap sticks (I have a VKB F-14 stick that i use just for flying the tomcat, which is quite frequently these days)

Why do you have to repeat the process? I've done it once for all my sticks and grips.
The Warthog is super sensitive too, but even on that one I don't use deadzones ever. 40cm extension though.
It's too bad, it looks like a bad ass stick!

I'm actually not sure? Is it supposed to save? It saves my inputs. Its just the deadzone that changes. and thats not just DCS, the same happens in IL-2

Can't answer for IL-2, as I have it uninstalled. (Never used it).
But in DCS. When you click "OK", it saves.
I do really wish ED would implement the "Windows standard", of "OK, Save, Cancel", just to make users feel better.

About the "deadzone change", not saving. Can't say I've experienced that in any game. So who knows.
Maybe make a support case?

well, if i can figure out how to calibrate this stick properly. i hopefully won't need the in-game deadzones

That seems true! Too bad you can't set the deadzone in Windows.
You are 100% sure DCS doesn't save them?
And, you can calibrate the stick in Windows, and it saves it, no matter the deadzone?

I actually have quite a few mapping issues. it feels like every time i boot up DCS, i'm having to re-map some, or all of my peripherals. i'm not sure if its the game. i've re-installed it a bunch. or something to do with my computer. or possibly one of the background programs i run? i usually have "simapp pro" and "DCS panels" running, among other things, like voice attack if i'm flying the tomcat. and sometimes I have devices in different USB ports by accident' or something gets un-plugged during gameplay.

either way, this is a thing i have to deal with almost monthly...

I see. I have never had any of those issues, would've driven me crazy.
Seems it might be your system/setup that have issues actually, which can be hard to pin point.

Okay so thats an arduino micro, so that narrows it down that its either running MMJOY2 or custom arduino code. I'd suggest asking on the mmjoy2 thread if anyone can ID it directly and try and get the firmware flashed off of it.
