just curious, seems the horizon is almost at the bottom of the hud when almost touchdown, then how about on the glideslope ? Where there the runway would be smaller.

It not perfectly aligned with the pilots eyes but this video is from the helmet perspective

The F-4 lands using a combination of AoA and power. It’s an artifact of its naval origins.

If you’re on speed (for a given fuel weight) & at correct Angle of Attack you’ll see the runway just fine.

No problem viewing the landing area. Run the seat up if you were slightly smaller in stature (I classed myself as the worlds tallest midget 😆 ).

thx, it's a good POV video, and if using the landing route with final turns it would be better right?  and oof seems the pilot got a "hard ass" after that land in the vid XD

alright, I guess I need to pull that handle to "lift up" that seat 😄

That's precisely how airplanes fly. The historical artifact is that properly flying airplanes like that is in general more an exception than the norm it should be.
