DIlligaf666, have you attempted this:

@ronnydown: some people reported problems with the 9.1 and 9.2 Catalyst drivers. Please try disabling Catalyst A.I. or setting it to standard, and if that doesn't help, revert back to 8.11 or 8.12 drivers.

It's one of the first page posts in this thread. ;)

Hi - I am going to try that and a few other things.

I'm considering a reinstall of Vista to clean out old drivers and codecs.

Hopefully its not too painful.

Thanks for the help so far

And yes, all other guys that I'm sorry I overlooked, if you have not attempted an overlook on the codecs, I believe there were some issues with some conflicts somewhere. It is mentioned in a different thread. I "unfortunately" use nVidia cards myself and has done so for a few years so it's a bit outside my area of expertise, but the problems definitely focus on ATI cards and what has seemed to have the highest success rate so far is disabling Catalyst AI and/or driver rollback to 8.1 or 8.2.

For information on the codecs, see if a search can help you, it's somewhere in this forum section.

Also, if you do not get an error report, please see if you can run Process Explorer or something similar and then replicate the problem, see if you can see what is causing the issue.

DIlligaf666, you should not have to reinstall Vista to clean out the drivers, you should have the capability of removing and/or rollbacking them manually through the control panel. Also, waaaay too many people (going back a bit) have been "forced" to admit that they have System Restore turned off because it eats hard drive space. If any of you happen to be one of those, please consider reactivating it. You only need a couple gigabytes, and nowadays you can easily get 5-10 gigabytes per dollar when buying a hard drive and still have one of the quality harddrive options. Space is cheap and System Restore can sometimes really save your rear.

(It has saved my current computer once already, in spite of it only being a few months into commision.)

Oh, and on the patch that is in development, the devs are well aware of the problems and will include a fix for it if it is in their power to do so.

Believe me I dont want to reinstall Vista.

I have had other games not work because of ASUS on screen display - but have not been able to unistall it properly - even in safe mode

These games have also had fixes involving sound codecs so was thinking I might try and sort that out too

I have system restore running - but In this case I never got it to run in the first place so nothing to restore to as such.

I'll try the disable catylyst AI method (if I can work out how to do that)

update - worked out how to disable it - no change - perhaps ill try older drivers......
