uhoh7 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 So, to get the best out of DCS BS, what do we think the best swapfile settings would be? Obviously some variables here My rig is vista46 with 4gb RAM. I just moved BS and my swapfile to a 32GB intel X-25E SSD drive, and set the swap at 6400 MB which vista "recommended". I made this size both min and max. But I know their are numerous schools of thought on this question. And I'm wondering how much BS uses the swap on a fast system? Kula66 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 IMHO, with 4GB of RAM, even Vista would be hardly touching your swap file ... unless you have a memory leak somewhere that is.
ZaltysZ Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) I have 4GB of RAM and have set swap file to 0 (disabled it). DCS can eat only up to 2GB, so another 2GB is left for OS and other programs. Those 2GB is more than enough for OS and background programs (IM, TrackIR and etc.). Of course, if I had bad habit to leave image processing program minimized with a lots of pictures opened in it, while I was playing games, then it would be good idea to leave swap enabled. Windows likes to use swap no matter how much RAM you have. It is performance wise decision to disable it, if you have enough RAM. Edited March 15, 2009 by ZaltysZ Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
