Hi all,

Currently sporting a 5 year old ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q IPS 1440p widescreen.  Getting very high FPS with a RTX 4090 so considering making the jump up to 4k.  Specifically looking at the ASUS ROG Swift 41.5” 4K OLED Gaming Monitor (PG42UQ).

Was wondering for those that went 4k and possibly have OLEDs.

1.  Going from a IPS monitor to OLED worth the extra cost?

2.  OLED a big improvement with DCS World?

3.  I see a lot of people using LG C2 TV/Monitors for DCS World.  Those worth taking a look at?

4.  For people that had DCS World with a 1440P and went to 4K, how big of a FPS hit did you take?  If you had to turn down eye candy, was the extra resolution worth it?

Thanks for any input or recommendations ahead of time!

I now fly mostly in VR, probably 90% of the time, but when I build my new rig, I went from a 27" 1440p ROG monitor to the 42" LG C2.

1. That is going to be subjective based on a few variables.  I had the monitor for several years and I paid $550 for it back in 2016.  The LG cost me $700 last year; so yes, totally worth it for me.

2. Yes, massive improvement on overall visual quality, which could be seen immediately.

3. Definitely take a look at them.  Some people will fret over the 120MHz max refresh rate and HDMI-only output of the TV, but I have had zero issues, as I mostly play flight or racing sims.  FPS gamers who crave massive refresh rates would have a different opinion.

4. With the new rig, I did not suffer any loss in FPS, and it has only gotten better with things like multi-threading and DLSS.

I use a 4K OLED monitor in the specs below. It’s fantastic! This or any game just looks gorgeous in 4K. A 4090 will power through any game including DCS at 120 fps or maybe more with all the settings maxed, you won’t need DLSS either. No reason to worry. OLED is the perfect screen technology as it is the only flat screen which can achieve a true black level so the picture quality is unsurpassed. Plus it has a very fast refresh rate. The concerns about screen burn in are less relavent these days as the screen has pixel cleaning and shift features to minimize the risk. Definitely worth the quality.
