Hi -

I'm hoping some of you can help me out. I have a top end PC with a very powerful graphics card (RX 7900 XTX). I've been looking at the videos of Marianas and still feel I'm not getting the level of realism I'd like.

Two videos of Marianas below.

Also three shots of my settings including in plane view.

Any help would be valued - esp what settings I might tweak.

I'm using a 7900xtx and very happy with it. Had a 6900xt and 3080 before that. 7900xtx is fantastic when dialled in.

Probably quite headset dependent but I've used a reverb g2, 8kx and bow pico 4.

For my setup I use max resolution on all headsets. Looking at your settings I'd start at the top and reduce resolution immediately from where u have it to the lowest setting. That's only desktop resolution so no effect in vr. I don't use upscaling at all but use msaa x2.

I reduce textures to medium and terrain textures to high. Also reduce shadows.

Clouds to low as it doesn't seem to make much difference to vr image but does affect performance. Also i reduce clutter and forest a little as well as antisopotric filter to x4.

For me all that looks great and if there's still overhead I'd prefer to oversample the resolution than add more shadows and clutter. I think lowering these settings will give u a lot more performance without noticeable worse image, thus allowing you to oversample and get a better graphical image.

Specifically the trees still look monocolour blury and the buildings monotone coloured and boxy...

Part of it is the time of day in the mission. Mid-day times will look washed out. The monitor looks like it's set to cold colors. Have you tried changing that? Your GPU is good, I would use MSAA. MSAA is way clearer than the new offerings. At least in VR. I tested the clarity by spectating the Supercarrier LSO spot and comparing the difference in the tower/island. MSAA x4 was superior but was a 15 fps hit.

Thank you all. Adjusting the time of day made a big difference!

Also, I've noticed that going from the free Caucasus and Marianas maps to the paid Syria map makes a big change to the quality of the terrain.

I'm still a bit undecided between MSAA vs FSI, and also the exact amount of anisoptropic filtering.

By the way, what OpenXR settings do you use? CDS?

Turn off FSR. You don’t need to use upscaling with that GPU and resolution. Upscaling creates artifacts so if you’re getting decent frame rates without it things will look better. Turn on SSS SSAO and SSLR, set shadows to Default instead of flat. Cockpit Global Illumination On. A strong GPU like that should be able to max or enable all the settings.
