Defaut FOV settings for each module (prefered in: options -> "special" tab)

Hi,

I know, there is "a way" to somehow setup a custom FOV for modules by modifying lua files but when asked about QoL features. Eagle Dynamics, PLEASE, do us the favor and add per module settings for cockpit FOV in an easy way.

With regards
Leon

This can already be done. Just set the FOV slider when you’re in the F1 view of a particular aircraft and press Alt+Num0. That  FOV and view is then saved as “Zoom Normal”

PS this functionality only works currently in the Stable version, it’s broken in the Open Beta

As almost none of us is playing the Stable, it does work for (almost) none of us 😞.

Well that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Hi,

I very much agree with the OP on this topic here! The slider that ED implemented in the options menu was already a helpful addition, but it is not permanent. As soon as i hit NumEnter, it reverts back to some default value. It would really change things to the better if there was a default FOV setting that can be set once and also stays there.

What sharpeXP suggested, can certianly be done, however it is still inconvenient for two reasons:

1. Many of us play with TrackIR or some other headtracking device. When setting the default view using Alt+Num0, not only the FOV but the whole view is saved. Now, with a headtracker, the view is almost never neutral, one would need to deactivate TrackIR first, zoom to the desired FOV and save it, and then reactivate TrackIR again, which are quite a few steps.

2. The change is not permanent.

The FOV slider exists already in the game. I think it would be very easy to implement such a slider for every aircraft in the special options tab (or so) and maybe make a checkbox to it, saying "use initial default FOV" vs "use custom FOV, set by slider" or something like this, if people still want to fly with the one, set by the defs. Alternatively, make the existing slider permanent so that if i hit NumEnter, it gives me the FOV from that slider.

True, you need to set this with your head tracking turned off unless you want your default view to be skewed off.

it’s actually supposed to be. It’s working in Stable but broken currently in OB

That does seem more user friendly. I’d settle for it just working at all right now.

The other setting that’s needed besides the “normal” is the max. It’s a little odd that when you zoom out max you get this crazy fisheye that’s way too wide. IMO there shouldn’t be a difference between “normal” and “max”. I think for most people normal is max.

... until it comes to dog fights. In this case, its quite common to zoom out for a bigger FOV in order to not loose sight on the enemy plane. And to add to Moafuleum's comment: I use Tobii Eyetracker and as in VR, your view is never fully stable and centered. Of course its possible to switch off any tracking device for the initial setup but the same goes for every tiny correction you wanna do later. An additional slider in the options menu is not affected by tracking devices - this would make things much easier.

Anyway ... per module default zoom settings would be a great QoL addition.

Sure. What I’m saying is at least for my own preference the wide and “normal” would be the same thing. Probably about 95d. I think that’s what most people would feel normal is. The fully wide view in DCS is this very distorted fisheye that’s not very usable and kinda ugly. I don’t know if maybe that was intended for triple screens or something but it would be nice to be able to cap that value. Then there would be no need to assign a “normal” setting IMO, you could just zoom out max to return to your default. That’s how every other flight sim game is that I’ve seen. It’s possible to cap the max value using the response menu if you’ve got zoom on a slider but not if you’re using buttons. There might be an lua value somewhere but I haven’t found anything that works.
