mvsgas Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) Just wandering if anyone ever attempted to add the whistle sound to the F-15 engines? This happens when ever the nozzle moves position, like this: Check @ 0:49, 0:51, 1:38, 1:42, etc. Edited March 30, 2009 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Frazer Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) It is possible to mix that sound to the beginning of the so called "PlaneAfterburner" ogg file though it will give some problems. - The engine sounds in lockon are sound files which loop. So the "whistle" will come back every +/- 10 seconds (keeping the afterburner engaged). - What you could do is make the sound file longer (lets say 1 or 2 minutes). In that way you kind of reduce the chance of hearing the whistle sound too often, though it will increase the sound file size, and lower FPS performance. - Other than this, there is only one afterburner sound in lockon, with other words, every aircraft will have this whistle sound when engaging the afterburner. You could choose to add the sound to the F15BackEngine.ogg, though then again, you will hear the sound every +/- seconds, without responding to engine power changes. Frazer Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Just thought of another way to do it which may give a nice result. That is adding this sound to the "PlaneDistortion.ogg". You will hear this sound when the Gear/Flaps/Airbrakes are out and when you make hard turns, fly slow or do a cobra. So, you will hear it on landings and slow flyby's. I will test this and when the results are satisfying in most circumstances, I will add it to the sound pack i'm working on. Negative part again, not all aircraft make this sound (as far as i know only the F16/F15) and there is only one PlaneDistortion sound in lockon. Vekkinho Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 That's hydro actuators, right?! Yeah, just like Frazer said, sound samples are looped in LOFC and BS so there's no specific sound file to assign this whistle too. IIRC whistling can be heard during mil throttle change too (70%-100%) 'cause nozzles also move with RPM change. Everybody requested some visual changes in DCS:BS but very few of them mentioned audio changes. IMHO entire Sound table should be redone, lots of additional and specific sounds should be added to the library! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frazer Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Certainly true, I think for a very big part, sounds make the experience. As I said I'm working on a new sound mod. After figuring out how the Lockon sound system works I also found out how primative this system is. Next to that, the sound system is also full of bugs! Anyway, I will get the best out of it. After all, it will only be a little improvement over Archer sounds (he already did pretty much everything possible). 1 Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Well Frazer, for what it counts, thank you very much. I was just curious if this was done before. If is there any way I can help, please let me know I will try my best, I have no talent for anything :) but I will Try. Your enthusiasm for this is great , again Thank you! Vekkinho, I do not want to bore you with the explanation, basically the sound come from the CENC (convergent exhaust nozzle control). Let me know and I could explain it, but I am sure you could find a more eloquent answer in F-16.net, Any rate thanks as well.
