Freakoid1966 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) In the german-version the mission "schiessstand" (engl. shooting range) you should train your skills with about 35 ground targets on a field. but whatever i try, i can´t auto-turn. the heli turns to the target but there is always a small offset between target and the heli-nose. so it´s impossible to get the "c" on the tv-screen. i know how to use this feature. i dont´t have problems with auto-turn in other missions. Frakin Toasters Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 The chopper will automatically point you towards the target, but you have to manually use some yaw control input to get little tracking circle inside the big green circle, which is the sight of the Vikhrs
Freakoid1966 Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) but in other missions i do not have to give additional manual control to the heli. it turns perfectly to the target itself. and even if i try to give manual control to the heli it is almost impossible to hold the "c" on the screen while the rocket flies to the target. so many rockets miss. Ulrich Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 but in other missions i do not have to give additional manual control to the heli. it turns perfectly to the target itself. Check wind conditions. I suppose you fly with no wind in other missions.
Freakoid1966 Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 checked the wind conditions already. in this tutorial mission http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2626185/STICKY_Tutorial_How_to_take_of.html#Post2626185 thers is wind also but the heli turns perfectly to the target. and the "c" is on the screen permanently.
nemises Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 It all depends on how you are trimmed, and if you have heading hold enabled (which you should). There is allmost allways a small offset .. the autopilot is only so accurate .. You must manually trim to a Perfect hover, Then engage auto hover... then engage turn to target. If you are offset slightly then press and hold the trim button, adjust the amount of yaw you need to line it up properly, and relase the trim button. From there until you re-trim, your auto-turn should be pretty accurate (assuming small or no cross wind).
bumfire Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) As people have said their will always be a small offset so that you need to turn a tiny amount yourself to be able to fire but, if you trim the helo correctly you can get around this but you first need to come to a hover, select a target, turn on turn to target auto pilot, then once it does its thing, then very very slowly and carefully move the helo so that the target is now dead centre ( both circles aligned ), push the trim button and aslong as you dont move to far/violently the next target/s that you shoot at will all hopefully be dead centre or not far from it and the "C" to shoot will always show up when the helo turns to its next targets without you having to manually move the helo that tiny bit as usual. Its all down to trim and doing it like i described needs very very very tiny inputs of rudder once the autopilot first turns you towards your target, so that once the helo stops moving on its own, you then move the rudder a tiny fraction so that both circles align and then trim, from then on as long as you dont violently move out of position you should always have the "C" symbol on the hud when your helo swings around to a new target, this only works whilst hovering mind you. If that is to difficult to do, then just select manual instead of auto on the weapon control switch then you will be able to fire with your nose waaay offset from the target and still be able to hit the target with a missile. Also as others have said, wind is a big factor, the stronger the wind the more tug on your helo and the harder it will be for you to hold a perfect heading without some slight deviations.
