haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I run the Home/LWin start, set the ABRIS and select waypoint, press R for route mode when airborne. I manage to pilot the Ka-50 ratehr OK now! Master weapons arm on (W-LAlt), laser standby on (Q-RShift), weapons conmtrol switch (A), select pods (Y/I), moving target select (N), autom, turn on target (Q), Weapons mode (S), Uncage Shkval (O). Helmet sight on (H), (O) again, Enter, Use zoom for the Shkval display. Using the Lock on Target button on the joystick. But when I reach the enemies (spotted labels tell me being there), they are not shown on the Shkval display, thus I cannot fire any type of missile or use the cannon! Using the simple mode causes no problems with this, but the real game mode does! What can I be missing? What switch do I forget to set? Why no capture on the Shkval? I appreciate all kind of suggestions here. I will try them all for to make the attacks successful! Thanks in advance! Haraldh
EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Laser standby on with Q-Rshift? For me that's Rshift-O... I'm not sure if I ever changed that though. A track file would go furthest to showing what might be happening. You get the option to save them automatically at mission end, so if you could fly a simple and short mission and save and attach the track file it might be possible to see what's happening. haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 100% as the labels are there! In fact I am trying the Tutorial mission, so I know where those 3 tanks are at WP2 + the rest at WP3! They don´t show up on the Shkval display in real mode, only in game mode! /Haraldh
EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Try to make a track to upload please, because I don't really understand how they wouldn't "show up" on the Shkval. haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 I have the track saved. How to go on? /Haraldh
EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I have the track saved. How to go on? /Haraldh Click reply into this thread, and in the box of tools over the box where you type, there is a small icon of a paperclip. Clicking that should cause a new window to pop up asking you if you want to attach a file from your computer or from the web. In the box named "Upload file from this computer", click the button and you should get a file browser window. In there you would proceed to the folder where the track file is, select it. On my computer the location is C:\Games\BlackShark\Missions\Tracks\ The name of the file should then appear in the upload box, whereafter you press "upload". There is a file size limit of 5MB for TRK files, so it might take a while for the upload to complete. Attached there should be a trk file of my own that does include a full engagement (and a pretty hairy one at that). Let me know if you have any further issues figuring out the attachement method. EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) I believe I saw what was wrong there. When you brought up the helmet sight you locked up the ground well before you arrived at the target, and that put you in Ground Stabilized Mode. Meaning the Skhval was trying to keep looking where it was pointed when you brought up the helmet mounted sight. After getting into Ground Stabilized mode, it is possible to move the Skhval window (the smaller of the circles that appear in the hud), I think the standard keys for this if you are using a swedish keyboard is , and . and - and ö I myself use the hatswitch on my joystick, but I also use a TrackIR4 for head movement and it seemed like you had the hatswitch occupied with moving your view. If you like I can run a simple mission and save the track for you to see the proper proceedure - the trk file I posted earlier does include it but it takes a long while into the track before you'd get to see it. EDIT: Also, you switched the weapon control panel to manual, which is not necessary. When it is on manual the computer that calculates whether you have a valid solution will not be active, so you will need a good bit of experience to use manual mode and still be certain that you can get a kill. EDIT2: added some things above. haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Maybe I should make the chopper fit for fight closer to the area? Would that do the trick? Of course I want to keep the weapon control at autom! I must do something wrong there as it was set to manual! How do I read a track file? I really appreciate your help! /Haraldh Edited April 1, 2009 by haraldh
EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Maybe I should make the chopper fit for fight closer to the area? Would that do the trick? Well, I'm usually pretty early with setting up for combat (though I have some personal peculiarities with how I handle the Laser standby switch, though I made an effort to not do that in the track file I prepared so as not to confuse). The real issue really is that you don't get the Skhval seeker exactly on target when you are using the helmet-mounted sight, which is perfectly understandable if using keys or hatswitch to look around. So after placing the Skhval sensor view with the helmet sight, you should use the keys to move it. I believe it's by defaul the keys left of the right shift key, but I may be wrong. So you then move the view with those onto the target, and only when you have the target in the centre of the shkval view do you press the lock key. (Enter, I believe? I have it on Joystick button four myself but I believe the default is the enter/return key.) How do I read a track file? You download the saved track file (right-click save-as as per normal) and save it in the Tracks folder (same place where you found your own track). To then view it, start the game as normal and click "Replay". That should open that folder and you will be able to select which one to look at. When you then start it, if you only unpause and then don't touch anything else, you will be able to see every head and mouse movement made by the player just the way they saw and did it when they were playing. In the track file I prepared i did gesture a bit with the mouse to highlight things as they were happening, so this is very practical. :) I really appreciate your help! /Haraldh It really is my pleasure. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 I have a new Saitek Cyborg Evo and it has a Surface Target Lock key so that is convenient, I think. Should the helmet sight be on during the whole process or just for the initial setting? I have totally missed using the keys to move the Shkval sight! That information I didn't know about before! I will take a ride with that track file and study how you handled the situation! Thanks so far! Haraldh
EtherealN Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Ah, you have almost the same stick I have, then. :) I've got the Evo Force, though the Force is unusable in DCS with that stick, unfortunately. I usually only utilize the helmet sight for an ititial "lock" - that is, I put the Skhval in the general area and after that it is only the regular lock key I use when satisfied that the box in the Skhval is over the target. Oh, and in case you're wondering, I didn't stay in swedish here because in case someone else runs into a similar issue it's nice if their search on the forum has a chance of them understanding the thread. But if you find reason to poke me with PM, feel free to do so in swedish if you prefer that. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
haraldh Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) No, I think we keep it in English for the good reason that you brought up! I have been watching those track videos and they were very informative! Just out of the school books on how it shall be performed (afar from one landing:megalol: ! Yippee! I am not the only one!) I think I might have got some ideas how to do it! I will try some missions tomorrow and come up with the result! I have to train some more how to handle that cream whipper! Thanks so far! Slayer Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Dont forget to adjust the tacking gate size on the shkval either if you have it too large you won't get it to lock up properly. haraldh Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Now I have got it! I was able to lock the target in the Shkval display, to fire some missiles and to use the cannon! Many thanks for your help, Paul! I had misunderstood, the instruction, but with your help I fixed it! Now I have to work on holding the helicopter steady in autohover long enough to lock on the target! Haraldh:pilotfly:
