Rockeyes Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I've decided to spend the money on a good printer to do the job. That way I can have what ever colour pictures I wish. I can print out the A10 PDF file when it arrives and any amendments that go with it. Oh and maybe cut and paste some English text where needed. Zakk Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I think I've lost you here. People bought the sim for 50 bucks. The new manual will be offered for 30 bucks and you don't have to buy the retail version to get the printed one it's offered seperately. I don't even know wether there will be a retail box with the printed manual included. So howcome you get to 120 buck on top of the spent 50 on the sim? Mind you, this is not meant to be a personal offensive, I am just curious about your point of view. Of course the whole manual in color will significantly add to the price, but then I still do not understand the comment about the extra retail copy of the game? Enlighten me, please, sir. ;) There are a TON of BS simmers out here who already have the down loaded version and are now wanting the DVD version; they are NOT buying it for the manual. They just want to "feel good" about having a hard copy and others have some misconception about activations. Others just buy into the hype and now want to have it as a collection item. Now the peeps who already have the PDF also want a printed color manual. I'll do the math for you: DL version 50.00 DVD version 40.00 Color Manual 80.00-read the other posts! 2x cost of B&W and some say they would pay 80 Total 170.00 Why spend an extra 120.00 when you already have the game and the manual? Why spend any amount of extra CASH? Isn't this whole US of A economy designed to rip you off? Show me the deals! There are NONE pal, it's all a big scam and we are paying through the nose for EVERYTHING. So the people who have money to burn; go ahead and burn it--it's the American Way! I will be downloading Battle Field 1943 when it's offered this summer; btw: it won't EVER be available for purchase at a retail store. No more printed manuals, no more boxes, and no more 3rd party retailers like Worst Buy getting a cut of the action :megalol: Who needs nosy sales peeps bothering us anyway when we have GOOGLE to answer ALL our questions? This is the future of gaming and obtaining games. So if you want to have that "feel good" thing, then you will have to BURN it to DVD. Gigabyte|Q6600|8GB DDR3|GTX285|Win7 64|X-65

Yah but at the cost of toner cartridges these days is this a viable option? Unless you print just a few of the pages you consider important be prepared to spend more than the cost of the DCS manual in ink cartridges.
petherf Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Can't believe they're even considering a B&W manual in the first place! Only a few days ago I was flicking through the tremendous manual that came with my Falcon 4.0 box. That was worth the price of the original game on its own!! WTF has gone so badly wrong that manufacturers can't include a decent printed manual? And the falcon manual whas B&W I can go to 100$ for a colour manual
Backsword Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 £50- 60 ($90) is what I would spend for a colour manual. With or without english labels. Anything more and it really would be the same price to print my own. Just not as convenient. I already have a B&W copy so I was really hoping on a colour version. There is no substitute for having a manual on your lap unless your name is Kim Peek. Anyway hope it happens. Thanks ED staff for considering it....
Yskonyn Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) There are a TON of BS simmers out here who already have the down loaded version and are now wanting the DVD version; they are NOT buying it for the manual. Thanks for the explanation, but it hardly has anything to do with the topic. People buying the retail box is not related to people buying the manual whatsoever, you even say it (look above). If they want to buy the retail box, fine, it's their choice. I can understand why you think it would be silly, though, if you already have the game, but we're talking about an inquiry about how much you would spend on a color manual. A friendly bit of advice though; you might fare a bit better if you would loose the attitude there, pal. In this whole thread you've been ignored by everyone but me. The only way to deliver a point of view to others is to make them listen and think. Your rather aggressive method does not seem to work well. You could've posted "$0" just as well and be done with it. powleym Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Firstly thanks for getting a manual printed at all. It is a shame that the days of Falcon 4.0 style packaging and manuals has vanished (I am lucky enough to have the special edition version of F4 ). I would certainly be willing to pay extra for a colour manual. I have had a pre-order for the printed (black and white) manual for weeks. On another note has anyone ever thought about self publishing? http://www.lulu.com/uk/ This would allow everyone to decide on their own spend and requirements i.e. colour/black and white, paper/hardback and additionally saves on the capital expenditure for a print run. e.g. http://stores.lulu.com/dslyecxi I have a copy of this ArmA guide and I am very happy with the result. Yes it was a more expensive option, but I made the choice. EDIT: I just checked the latest pricing for this guide and the prices have gone up considerably so in hindsight this might not be such a good suggestion, I will leave the post as is anyway as it may be of interest. Just a thought, Mark Edited April 6, 2009 by powleym
