With OpenXR toolkit I can see GPU and CPU time in the game, also I use MSI Afterburner for monitoring frametime and GPU load. So yes. I need steady 75hz, reprojection is too bad at Pimax (also when I had the CV1 I didn't like it either).
I have a Q3 but prefer to use 8KX with PCVR. I would get even worse results with Q3 due to additional encoding-transmitting-decoding overhead. It's not free. I'm going for Somnium VR1 if it's good.

Makes sense. I have been using the Q3 but I have a Pimax Crystal coming tomorrow. Interested to see the differences.

I used to set DLSS/DLAA at Perfromance but with the latest 2.9.3, I am using DLSS/DLAA at quality with very sharp results and practicaly no more smearing.  Big advantage with the combination DLSS/DLAA is the improved framerate instead of a big hit with MSAA and still some shimering.  I run my 8kX at 75hz.  I need to try again TAA with 2.9.3.

Take pictures of your crystal when it arrives before using it. Mine arrived damaged and with a damaged controller and they gave me a fit as customer service is horrendous after a month of back and forth emails I am finally telling them not to replace it but to refund me and i will not try them again till the 12k comes out and i trade in my 8KX for it. Image is great with the crystal but the quality not so much, this is the fourth pimax product I got that was defective in two years.

You should go and play the lottery!
Honestly: Me (or anybody else I know having and using a Pimax headset)  has ever experienced something like you claiming to.
I had one issue with my 8kx two years ago in regards of tracking. Opened a ticket--> received support within 12 hrs--> problem solved.
BTW: My 8kx has been in use every (!) day for a couple of years and I never faced  serious issues.

I'm new to VR and DCS. Have been fiddling with these settings for a month now. Have a 4090 card with good CPU and memory and Q3. I find MSAA 4x the best but get fps of 45 with oculus set to 90. So my go to is MSAA 2x which gives me a consistent 80+ fps. The cockpit is nice and clear and edges are quite sharp. But in close air to air, the faster aircraft show ghosting artifacts even at 90 fps. Any ideas on how to reduce it?

I do plan to try the DLSS that is available on MT version soon.to see if it's any better.

A question, how do you activate foveated rendering, thru OpenXR toolkit?

I wish I would win 😆

The 8KX was had zero issues but the crystal has been a nightmare for me and a handful of people, I have noticed a semi common denominator is that most got the headset from their amazon store.

I ordered mine through Pimax's official site but after a week of them having it marked shipped but never shipping it I got a hold of them and to get mine on time they sent me one from their Amazon store and well...It arrived damaged. It worked eventually took three days of support emails and following their diagnose and repair steps but had a broken/ missing pin under the right lens. Their are supposed to be 4, I had 3. This cause connection issues and also effected the headset view. Took multiple reseat of the lens to finally get it to read and run but again its broken and would fail soon so pimax offered to fix it, after a month of back and forth emails , some emails never got replies.

The broken controller was how they packaged it. Stick sticks to the right and doesn't return on its own. When they shipped it they put the controllers loose in the box and not properly seated in the cutouts. They also put the whole black pimax box upside down in the main shipping box so that when you followed the arrows for right side up it had everything upside down which is likely what damaged everything as the pimax box has no top padding so in shipping everything was sitting on the box bottom and taking 100% of any force FedEx put on it. When ever I get something expensive in that's broken 98% of the time it comes FedEx.

My last email to them has been more than 72 hours ago with no response (not counting the weekend). I am keeping the accessories that will fit the 12k (light house faceplate, pads, dmas etc) and will try pimax again when the 12k releases as I am part of the 8KX for 12K trade in for 100% of the purchase price (which is more than a crystal will trade in for) but for now nothing will replace my 8KX till their QA and CS improves. I expect Pimax controllers to be bad as they have never been good but I don't like receiving a 1600 broken headset and a month+ of headache which isnt over yet to chance it again. Had their CS responded in a quicker manner and not ignore things I was saying (took three emails with photos before they even mentioned fixing the broken controller) then I might trust them more but they have eroded my trust to 50/50 for now. Doesn't help the 12k has been behind for years.

But I am glad most of you here haven't had this experience and hope you don't.

EDIT: I would still use the 8KX if it wasnt me needing to have lenses now.

There are two ways to use foveated rendering. One is via open XR toolkit. The other is to use quad views foveated rendering. Both are by the same author (mbucchia). Overall QVFR is superior but it really depends in your system. If you have lots of CPU spare performance then QVFR is the better option as it shifts some of the load away from your GPU. Otherwise use the one from OXRTK.

DLAA is much easier on performance than MSAA. It will give you slightly less crisp results, but this can be mitigated somewhat by sharpening. You can also get a strange "smearing" effect with moving objects. The latter is mitigated by higher fps and higher resolution.

DLSS introduces more blurring but is offset by starting with a higher resolution. This can yield diminishing returns but you should be able to find a balance that gives almost as good quality as DLAA but reduces the "smearing" effect.

Try the options and see what works for you.

Try VR-ROCK, nice fit and relatively cheap.  Go for the 15mm foam also, much more confortable.

DLAA+DLSS still my favorite but there are some smearing even at 90hz.

DLAA is the perfect balance but it makes me feel ill after a while. Its like i drank half a bottle of whisky and sat in the cockpit. Everything shimmering and blurring.

use QVFR and it will make your cockpit clear

what is qvfr and how to enable?

QuadViews (QVFR) is only available on supported vr headsets like the Pimax Crystal.

It runs on any headset. Only those with eye tracking support DFR but others will allow Fixed Foveated Rendering. This lets you keep the centre resolution high and reduces peripheral resolution to increase performance.

@Qcumber is correct. Quad View Foveated Rendering does not require a Pimax headset, eye tracking, etc.

If you have a Quest 3, for example, it works in fixed foveated mode. I used to use it on my old system that had a 3080 and it worked wonders for improving the framerate (I don’t feel I need it now with a 4090 or id still be using it).

ok im probably the same then. Rocking a 4090 everything's running fine as it is. I got the pixel density at 1.5x.

Just wish we had better AA options, DLAA makes me drunk.
