Mission 3 help

I get to the part where i am retasked to head to portal 291 to intercept the Russian plane - i then turn my flight to bearing 291 at 22,000 ft. i keep flying in that direction, but i never see the russian plane anywhere including on my radar

what am i doing wrong?

Sounds like you misinterpreting the instructions.  The intercept isn't on bearing 291, its 291 from bullseye (portal), this puts its inbound across the med northeast of Cyprus.

dumb question - but when i enter a new waypoint with the coordinates of the Bullseye - how do i easily determine 291 degrees from the bullseye ?

See this video on how to set, IIRC wp59 is set as the bullseye automatically

Couple of ways you can do that: just eyeball it based on position of B/E in your SA page or HSI (easy, not very accurate)

OR (better option) if you've entered the co-ordinates into a WP (or as Chiing said, they are automatically entered as WP 59 if the mission creator has made a bulleye in the mission), select it as your current WP and use HOLD the CRS switch (bottom right below the UFC panel) until CSEL comes up in the bottom slot of the UFC display, then type 291 on the UFC and press enter on the UFC and you'll get a line from your currently selected WP (or the TCN if it's selected) in that bearing with an arrow on the end of it.  Also very handy for entering your BRC when you're heading to the boat to visualize where you need to line up.
