I have a couple questions about the quest 3 and DCS VR. Is the 4090 required for high-quality VR with the quest 3 or will the 4080 super work as well or the 7900 XTX. Also, what are others running for connection between the computer and the quest 3 which gives the best experience/smoothness/clarity quest link with the cable, quest link air or virtual desktop. I am not using the steam version of DCS. I’m just starting out in DCS and learning the planes so I have a graphics card that will handle VR OK. But wondering if I should wait to get a high Fidelity graphics card until after I learned the planes. Thank you in advance.

64GB DDR5

1070ti( works good enough for learning)

winwing f15ex throttle and f16ex stick

RTX 4080 is fine. Obviously the 4090 would be better but I use an RTX3090 and run mostly high settings. I would avoid AMD cards when it comes to DCS. I'm sure I will get some flak for that statement but trust me when I tell you that you will be better off with an Nvidia card when it comes to DCS optimization.

Now regarding the Quest 3, you may won't to really research this one. I have the quest 3 and was initially pleased overall but I have recently been experiencing a lot of jagged lines and shimmering for stuff rendered outside the cockpit and I'm not sure why. I think it's an issue with the Quest and not DCS because I have noticed this in the Quest games as well to a lesser degree.

I know there are others running the HP Reverb which I also owned briefly but I couldn't get past the "looking through a straw" effect. The Pimax Crystal is also an option. A bit more expensive I think but it may be worth a look.

Pimax crystal will be out of my price range. I already have the quest 3 for a while now so not looking to purchase any headsets. Are you able to get high settings in VR or non VR?

I have a worse CPU than you and a 4080. I have a great time in DCS with a Quest 3. Go for it - you'll be happy.

What frame rate are you getting and quality settings high?

Sorry, I can't really give good data since I don't chase frame times or rates. I just mess with the settings until it seems acceptably smooth to me.

I have the Quest resolution all the way up in the Oculus software, pixel density of 1.1 in DCS, textures to high, DLAA, and most other things to Medium.

Sounds good to me I don’t really chase frame rates but I know what’s acceptable. Im just trying to stay away from stuttering. Are there any concerns with the 4080 16GB of ram seeing as games and updates are getting more demanding?

Well, maybe. I didn't want to spring for the 4090 and the associated power demands though.

I do notice a little stuttering at times when I look down at buildings in dense areas if I'm down low, particularly when I'm rolling rapidly. But it's not bad enough for me to spend too much time on it, and it even got better this last patch. Some things help, like lower resolution, no AA, or lower quality textures, but I don't like those so I make that tradeoff.
