Rudel_chw Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 (edited) 1) FR 22 MAIN RADIO The Viggen's Main radio is a UHF/VHF unit with the following frequency range: VHF, 103,000 – 159,975 MHz (25 kHz channel separation) UHF, 225,000 – 399,95 MHz (50 kHz channel separation) However, when contacting airbases it can communicate using unrealistic frequencies outside of these ranges, for example, at Nevada we have these Airbases: AFB Nellis uses the Base Preset 03, which has 4 frequencies: A: 327 MHz AM B: 132.5 MHz AM C : 3.9 MHz C2: 38.7 MHz On the real swedish Airbases, they have pre-defined frequencies for the different airbase services, like this: A = Tower, B = Precision Approach (PAR), C = Civilian Area Control, C2 = Military Area Control, D = Meteorology Office. Of course, IRL all these services operate on the VHF or UHF bands. On the Viggen Module only A, B, C and C2 are simulated, but of course all communicate with the same standard DCS ATC. However, this does not mean that the radio should be able to operate outside its frequency range, so for Nellis for example, only A and B should work, while C and C2 should not. At the moment, my Viggen can happily communicate using 03-C and 03-C2, which kills immersion. Hopefully, it is not something too difficult to fix ... and please take the opportunity to change the default manual frequency, as 123.456 MHz is not a valid frequency either, setting it to say 103.000 MHz shouldn't be hard. 2. FR24 BACKUP RADIO The Mission Editor does not validate the preset frequencies that one can enter, this allows us to set FR24 frequencies outside of its normal range, which is: VHF, 110,00 – 147,00 MHz (50 kHz channel separation) In fact, the FR24 is quite happy to operate using UHF frequencies, in spite of it being a VHF only unit on real life. On the positive side, the radio output power does seem to be nicely simulated, giving the FR 24 a much shorter range than the FR 22. Tested with no user mods active, on the Nevada map, where I'm editing some missions for the Viggen when I noticed these small radio innacuracies.
