Radar altimeter (ID2163A) minimum altitude axis

The radar altimeter altitude rotary button (named "Push to test" in the bindings) only has stepped +/- mappings. It would be nice if this would have an axis binding so that it could be mapped to an analog potentiometer as an axis.

I tried to add this myself by adding to joystick\default.lua the axis :

But this would only proportionally to the axis position increase or decrease the settings (i.e. turning the knob a little to the right, would slowly increase the value, and fully to the right increase it very fast).

Is it possible to add this as a normal axis?

Anyway, it would be nice if it was there by default.
