Super6-1 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Thanks for reading. I've recently purchased the game and it is running on a PC with a Q6600@2.4mhz / 4 GB RAM / Nvidia 8500GT and Vista 64 Premium FPS on the TUTORIAL01.MIZ are as follows: On the ramp with engines on: Inside >24-25 fps Outside > 31 fps Also I've edited the mission to take off with heavy thunderstorm and the FPS went down to 15 I am using DCS Max and AlacrityPC to stop services. I was wondering if someone with a similar system configuration could let me know if this is an average FPS or not? I appreciate your comments. Best Regards Super6-1
hitman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Have you tried running the affinity trick? You can get better fps that way. Super6-1 Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 Hello Hitman I was under the impression that DCS Max was an affinity tool better suited for Vista64 and that it created affinity automatically instead of the trick. Am I correct? Regards
hitman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) No, it works just fine on Vista all flavors, so long as you have a multiple core processor and nothing less. All it does is assign the game to run on all 4 processors instead of just one. I use the DCS: BS affinity tool, DCS Max comes with the same script. I can get an average of 10fps more with the trick than without it. I dont use DCS Max myself since I dont need it, but you can select which cores you want it to run on with that specific program...just checkmark the boxes for the cores you want it to run on. Since yours is a Q6600, try cores 0-3. crazysundog Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 In the options menu make sure you are not running in windowed mode, that may help to raise your FPS.
EtherealN Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Also, be careful with the Water setting. I've never used the 8500GT but from my reading of it's specification it does seem to be in the lower end where it is actually possible for the graphics card to be a bottleneck. I've never used the 8500GT but from my reading of it's specification it does seem to be in the lower end where it is actually possible for the graphics card to be a bottleneck. My 260OC doesn't even like water on high and it drops my framerates by 50%. Good advice there, make sure to drop that water detail. crazysundog Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Mine doesnt even hiccup.. It doesn't bother mine either, but it would slam an 8500's FPS through the ground!
KillaALF Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 @Super6-1 You might want to start looking into overclocking that Q6600, though, as EtherealN said, you're graphics card is a tad on the lower end.
hitman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It doesn't bother mine either, but it would slam an 8500's FPS through the ground! I dont think so...I had LOMAC running in max textures on an Asus laptop with an ati x1700 mobile. Its not so much an fps killer anymore. JG14_Smil Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 hello, just wanted to make sure you understand that the options.lua needs to be edited for best FPS from the water detail reduction. BS options sets water at Normal - this is ["water"] = 2. Set it to 0 for best fps. Water does look cool though at normal :)
Super6-1 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Good night (at least here at home!) Thanks for the hints and information. I do agree my system is a on the lower end and I will be looking to OC the processor and on the future upgrading the video card. I will try Hitman affinity suggestion. Game is not on windowed mode, thanks Crazysundog I did set the water to the lowest setting but only on the game so I will try the mod on the file internally. I'll post my findings. Glad to know the community is there to help eachother. Now is time to kiss the wife good night and taker the BS for a hoverwalk around the base... super6-1 over
Super6-1 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Update: I modified the WATER setting on the Options.lua and I've jumped from 24-25 to 35-36FPS. Regards Super6-1
