Commissar Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 (edited) I have the US boxed version of BS. Double-clicking on BS desktop icon for single player results in this error (same error when double-clicking multiplayer desktop icon as well): "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! . . . This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." BS was working fine before. However, I recently downloaded and installed the various patches MS released this week or last for XP and Office. Since then, I get this error and cannot launch the game. Everything worked fine before this. My current config: Intel P4, 2.8mhz 2gig memory 256meg GeForce 7600GT, Driver version 181.22 Windows XP, SP2 I have already tried reinstalling, but I get the same error. Acedy Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Maybe Windows also updated some drivers which cause the problem. Check the update log. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***
Commissar Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 I went ahead and uninstalled all the MS patches of April 15, 2009. Black Shark works like normal again. But, now I'm vulnerable to hackers. Damn you Black Shark :) Yeah, yeah I know the fact that I use windows that I was always vulnerable to hackers :P
EtherealN Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Well, tbh, from the security standpoint I would personally recommend switching to Vista. There is a slight overhead but it does have better security features - and in the case of multicore processors (you really ought to upgrade that machine at some point :P ) actually gets you a nice boost in DCS due to it's multicore handling. Tho from my own standpoint, there's nothing like a good UNIX. :P (Also, the term you're looking for is "crackers", not "hackers". "Hacking" is the act of writing code and a "hack" is a modification of a program - f.ex "I made a quick hack to let me use a text file to govern which ports are opened on boot".) Being nitpicky is my hobby. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
T3Redundee Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 (edited) I have the Download version of Black Shark. My exe hangs witj just Black Shark in the top left hand corner and then drops out. My Multiplayer exe gives me a Runtime Error below. "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." I feel that this is related. Commissar, would youhave a list of the MS Patches you uninstalled. My last updates were 19/04/07 and this was before I iNstalled Black Shark. Thanks Allan Edit Vista Home premium Edited April 18, 2009 by T3Redundee

T3Redundee Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Updated Now.....Still same problem. Updates should have read 19/04/09! Sorry for the typo. Allan
EtherealN Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Well, it's 18/04/09 today. :P Anyhow, my system is current and I have no issues, so most likely it's linked to something that is not common to our systems. If you can give as detailed a list of your hardware and drivers as possible (I can give you directions if you need them) we might be able to find some candidates. Commissar Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 I'm afraid to say that my problem is back. Yesterday I uninstalled the MS updates of April 15, 2009 and everything worked fine. I played some BS this morning and again everything worked fine. I close it down and left my computer for a few hours and tried to restart BS. Again, I get the same Visual C++ error that I detailed in my first post. I double checked to see if those MS updates reinstalled themselves and they didn't. I also have automatic update turned off anyway. I have cold rebooted and tried to start BS again. Same error and won't start anymore.
Commissar Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 (edited) Okay, I just solved my own problem. Here is what went wrong. I have both a CH Fighterstick USB and Xbox 360 gamepad. I noticed that my gamepad was plugged into my hub along with the Fighterstick. I unplugged the gamepad and then tried to restart BS. TA DAH! It loaded up like it's supposed to without the forementioned error message. I just double checked the result. Gamepad plugged in with Fighterstick plugged in at same time, game won't start and aforementioned error message pops up. Gamepad unplugged, BS starts up like normal. Basically just an input device conflict P.S - I just redownloaded the previous MS updates that were released on April 15, 2009. I made sure my gamepad was not plugged in along with my Fighterstick USB. BS starts up just fine without error. Edited April 18, 2009 by Commissar
T3Redundee Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I can't believe it......I had the same prob........removed the Logitech Rumble pad and Sim starts right away Many Thanks Commissar. Regards Allan
ED Team USSR_Rik Posted April 25, 2009 ED Team Posted April 25, 2009 (edited) It's very strange behavior. Input subsustem should recognize each USB device and make appropriate profile (such as for example my device "9 оси, 112 кнопок джойстика с колпачковым переключателем {C754CFF0-79A2-11dd-8001-444553540000}.lua"). Besides, our tester checked configuration on English release version with gamepad and X52 - no problem, GUI as well as simulation launches perfect. Commissar and T3Redundee, please make a small test: * connect both devices to PC (I mean gamepad and your joystick) * clear the %GAMEDIR%\temp folder * launch BlackShark, error screen is appeared, close application. * archive %GAMEDIR%\temp folder and upload in this thread or e-mail me: rik{m o n k e y}eagle{d o t}ru Edited April 25, 2009 by USSR_Rik Men may keep a sort of level of good, but no man has ever been able to keep on one level of evil. EtherealN Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Question for testing: Is there a difference in behaviour between USB hubs and USB ports directly connected to the motherboard? Somewhere around here I do have some USB hubs and some Xbox360 controllers, and I'll try to find them and see if I can find a correlation. My suspicion is that something happens when you have several controllers connected through the "same" hardware port, as can happen with a USB hub if the hub acts as a single device vis a vis the operating system, but tries to give input information from several separate devices that are connected to it. Commissar Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 (edited) USSR_Rik I did as you requested. There is nothing in the temp folder to send you. I've connected both my Xbox 360 gamepad and CH Fighterstick USB into my computer, cleared the temp folder, and started the game. I got the error message of course and closed the game. I went back to the temp folder and there is still nothing there. I have refreshed and closed and reopen the explorer and still nothing in the temp file. The way I have my computer setup is this: Fighterstick USB is connected directly into one of my motherboard's USB port. The Xbox 360 gamepad is connected to a powered USB hub and the hub is connected into another USB port, directly into the motherboard. In my case, my gamepad and fighterstick are on totally seperate USB ports and are not going into the same hub. Also just to be thorough, I am not using the official PC drivers for the Xbox 360 gamepad. Edited April 25, 2009 by Commissar
