Gunslinger52 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 (edited) Unsure if this is a bug, but I have repeated a scenario where George can see the targets (hidden by fog) but the FCR seems to struggle. I can understand fog affecting the laser, but the FCR seems less likely. In the screenshots, you can see in red text (hovering just above the cyclic) the targets George has seen (on our nose). I have also engaged 'Cheat Mode' (enabling Enemy targets to be visible on the TSD via the ATK Phase SHOW button). This is just so you can see that the targets exist on the map. Screenshots are taken after a fresh scan with the FCR. In one run, the FCR did pick up the targets once I climbed to maybe 700-900 feet, and was a lot closer to the targets. Perhaps about 3000m. FCR didn't seem to pick them up until about 4000-5000m when I was at maybe 200ft. Two others, also flying Apache's, also reported being ambushed by flying over targets that the FCR didn't show in the same mission. I fly the Apache a lot, and don't have this happen on maps without fog. Let me know if I've missed something obvious George sees but not FCR 2.trkGeorge sees but not FCR 1.trk Edited April 4, 2024 by Gunslinger52 i7-11700F 64GB RAM RTX3060 WIN 11 Pro HP Reverb G2 Meta Quest 3 TM Cougar & Logitech X56
ED Team Solution Raptor9 Posted April 5, 2024 ED Team Solution Posted April 5, 2024 @Gunslinger52, the FCR is not affected by fog, but it is affected by trees (or urban structures). Pretty much anything with a collision model will block the radar. When I replayed your track, and the T-72's were within the FCR detection range for stationary targets (6 km), there was indeed a moment when George had found a single T-72 despite the tank not appearing on the FCR page. However, within a few seconds he then announced "I don't know where he went". This means that George lost sight of the target, which implies there was intermittent line-of-sight with that tank to begin with, which would be caused by the trees in that area. As you approached closer and there was less tree density between your helicopter and the targets, not only did the FCR start to more reliably detect the targets, but George began discovering more T-72's in the area. This is in line with what should be expected when using the FCR and TADS to detect targets amongst intermittent vegetation densities. 2 Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man. Thanks Raptor9, very much appreciate the time taken to look into this for us. Glad things are working well, pity, as now I have to find new tactics to stay alive! Have a great weekend.
