Ok. I`ve passed the long or medium range fired missile evasion tutorials and i use them with great effect in ideal conditions but close range fired missiles blow the sh.t out of me especially when fired from behind or above me. What maneuvers should be used, high speed or low speed (my guy tends to blackout pretty easily)? Also do you generally use automatic flares/chaff release or you do it manually, and in what interval? Do you try to see the missile coming at you and move accordingly (i usually see it a few metres away, followed by :joystick: BOOOOM). BTW i`m not using labels for missiles and planes and i have no idea how you should fight against 2-3 fighters at different altitudes all around you trying to stick a big fat missile in your a.. but i think the AI knows where you are all the time (i might be wrong but i think this guy is cheating :P ).

The correct answer to this would be that you don't... you just die. The question you should ask yourself how you got in close with three fighters at the first place, and the answer to that question is that you shouldn't have.

If you want to increase your chances of success... fly with a wingman and work as a team.

Besides that, look for the smoke trails, fly at corner speed, pull g's, use countermeasures.... you may also want to drop out of burners when you think a heater is launched at you.

It is very difficult, and you need a slice of luck. If you've come to within visual range; the good news is that the AI will launch as soon as they have valid parameters; i.e. they will not wait for the optimal moment. This is good - it means they will not consider how you're trending in range, g, or aspect.

The best method is to avoid it, as the gent above says, but failing that, be as aggressive as possible; and close, close, close - get into RMin, pull around, control the fight and kill him. Losing SA is the biggest problem for me. Often I'll maneuver and evade any smoke trails; but then I lose sight and more often than not the AI will do a Max G pull and then you've got to get visual again before he can get into launch parameters. Been killed more often by this than any other way. Extension feels unintuitive, but is often the smart thing to do, i.e. unload the wing; point down and accelerate away - better that than flail around trying to spot the bad guy while he methodically pumps heaters at you.

1v3? - consistently winning given a ~5nm starting range??

IF you have surprise on your side it's possible...

If everyone has the same conditions from the start?

err....You need to be a DAMN lot better, i dont know

if anyone in HL is really good enough to fight 1v3 and win

consistently unless it's against really REALLY new pilots.

However if it's gunzo dogfighting thats a whole different

busines...

Thanks guys for your advices. I`ll practice more. Do you allways manually use countermeasures. And ECM does it affect the AI the same way it affects human players. I got the feeling the AI allways fires a missile first.

ECM doesn't affect anything at under 25km.

Using chaff and flares in anticipation of the enemies moment of launch is the most efective short range evasion. Usualy a human player shoots as soon as his missile gimbals permits it. Wich makes their behaviour predictable.

There is a bug with ECM.

When you are tws scan and someone with ecm enters 25km (burnthrough

range), he becomes a normal tws contact, however if you try to bug

him it goes straight to stt lock. *FRUSTRATION*

Yeah, i mean at large distance. Is it the same for the AI if you use ECM or not?

This is a game bug? And its the same for all fighters in game?

No, the AI cheats and is able to launch on you before a human would.

I don't know if its fair to call it a bug, but it is not correct behavior - it only affects the F-15.

EDIT: I mean what Yoda is talking about with respects to the bug in the second sentence.
