Dangerzone Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 For those who have a Pimax Crystal and have a lot of time in DCS - can you please comment on your thoughts regarding having a battery in the headset? I'm interested in how long you get before you need to change batteries in a DCS session, how much of a burden having a battery is (whether it's a factor, or a non-issue), etc. I'm trying to figure out whether or not it's worth getting a Pimax Crystal, or wait until the Crystal Super is released, or whether I just get the Pimax Light. The main thing that's stopping me from considering a Pimax Crystal now is whether or not I'm going to have buyers remorse in 6 months wishing I waited for the Super (my current VR headset may not last that long), or whether it's not a big deal. Or whether I buy the light if my headset doesn't last, and take the loss on selling it later and upgrading to the super. I hear tonnes of reviews on how great the quality is, 'wow' factors, etc, but not much has been said (at least on youtube) about the battery, except for the weight. Thanks in Advance
Lt_Jaeger Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 (edited) Battery sucks. That said, it is a non issue in DCS, at least for me. I do 3h Missions max and the battery charging indicator barely moves. So no big deal in this regard. I have the headset set up as delivered - with the PIMAX hub. It has to be mentioned, it is the second hub, the first one killed itself, but got replaced by PIMAX. Guess the newer Gen is better quality. Why does the battery suck? Due to weight and most probably turning on / shutting down software issues. Since I have the headset 5 out of 10 tries to shut it down properly are sucessfull, since the latest software update it is 2 out of 10. PIMAX is aware of this issue. The headset is by far not the most comfortable one, so adding more weight (I even use a 100gr additional counterweigt) is not something I dream of. I'm, besides the mentioned software issus, kind of happy with my crystal. Just using it until something better comes around, but that would most probably also need better hardware (4090 and 5900x already) Edited April 30, 2024 by Lt_Jaeger 1
j9murphy Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I also have no problems with the battery in DCS, but like Lt_Jaeger said it is a heavy headset (I also added a counter weight in the rear so that headset does not rest on my nose). I've adjusted pretty well now and am able to play 2-3 hours (all I have time for) with no comfort issues now 1
