Guil Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Hello, I have followed these forums since the beginning and have learned a lot, as well as downloaded some great mods and missions. Thanks. Occasionally I have a problem with the Vikhr going ballistic, ie. not tracking to the target. Range is good and I get the launch cue, and the helo is (relatively) steady. Prior to launch things do not look normal in the HUD, however. Target is locked/tracking in the Shkval screen and the target indicator shows up in the HUD, as it should, however the missle indicator is not visible as it normally is. It seems to slide off the left side of the HUD and be partly or not visible. When I move my head laterally I can see it, and by yawing the helicopter I can line it up with the target and launch, and the Vikhr will usually just arc down into the ground with no indication of tracking. Resetting the targeting system will cure this, but often it reoccurs, or at the least, I have to find my target again, track it, and try again. Needless to say this takes time, as well as wastes Vikhrs. Anybody else?
slug88 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Are you moving laterally at high speed when you experience this? The fact that the missile indicator is off to the side indicates that that may be the case. If so, the reason the Vikhr isn't tracking is because it loses the guidance beam from your helicopter due to the fast lateral motion. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boulund Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Take a quick look at your small "ball" to see if you're side slipping. If your heli is improperly trimmed it can feel like you are standing still (relatively) but alas you are moving sideways without noticing. nemises Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 There is also the potential issue of an over heated laser, which can cause similar issues. Ie you can stop getting ranging info...if you use "Manual" mode, then you might launch on a skkval target thinking everything is cool, when in reality the laser is not firing, and there for you have no ranging information or beam to ride....in this case, you Vhikr will go ballistic, and cannon rounds would usually fall short (having to ranging info for the targetting computer to adjust gun elevation). Easiest way , though, to tell is for you to post a track , as there is a few other reasons why this might happen.
