Hello fellow Virtual Pilots,

Just in time for the F-4 release, I am excited to share with you a project I’ve been working on: FlightDeck! If you’re looking for a streamlined DCS management experience, this might help!

r/hoggit - Introducing FlightDeck: A simple but smart launcher for DCS!

What is FlightDeck?

FlightDeck is a drop in launcher for DCS that has additional functionality to make managing DCS a little easier. It allows you to easily organize and access your kneeboards, keep DCS updated, change graphics settings, and more.

Key Features:

  • Manage Kneeboards: Auto-detects your installed aircraft to allow you to drag-and-drop your kneeboards from places like discord, into the proper locations. You can remove and reorganize them too.

  • DCS Updates: Keep both DCS and itself updated. Whenever there is an update for either one, you will be prompted to update.

  • DCS Settings: Allows you to change any setting that would have required a restart had it been changed inside of DCS, this includes many graphics and VR settings.

  • User-Friendly Interface: Intuitive and easy to navigate, ensuring a smooth experience from setup to advanced kneeboard and setting usage.

r/hoggit - Introducing FlightDeck: A simple but smart launcher for DCS!

How to Get Started:

  1. Head over to the FlightDeck GitHub repository.

  2. Read the FAQ to help answer any questions you may have

  3. Follow the installation instructions to set up FlightDeck on your system.

Latest Release: https://github.com/Rinzller/FlightDeck/releases

I’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions. Feel free to open an issue on GitHub or join the discussion here.

Happy flying, and see you in the skies!

This seems very promising. Have you looked at "Kneeboard Builder"? It has a pretty nifty feature. Removal of the default kneeboards, which I find mighty useful to de-clutter the kneeboard By removing the charts I have no use for in a particular mission. I also use Skatezilla's excellent GUI Updater/Launcher app extensivel. It has a ton of features. I particular like that I can make/launch presets, so it's easy to switch between graphic settings etc.
Cheers!

Having the option to remove the default kneeboards seems like good idea and a relatively easy thing to add to this. I will keep that in mind and add it to the list of future improvements. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, FlightDeck can make and launch presets in the way you described already.

Cheers!

I am excited to share a major update to FlightDeck! This update brings in the requested Startup tab to the launcher along with other bug fixes and visual improvements. You can read the full changelog here

NEW: Startup Tab

rich text editor image

This feature allows users to add up to 10 paths and have FlightDeck launch them before DCS launches. Add things like popular external applications such as SRS, VoiceAttack, and SimShaker or even your own scripts.

  • Configure a wait time after your app launches to give your app time to get ready (important for things like TobiiGameHub)
  • Optional terminate your launched app after DCS exits
  • Optional run your app as admin for applications that may require this such as SRS

NEW: Optimizations

FlightDeck will now do some common optimization strategies to improve your FPS and VR performance. Feel free to read more about it here. This is will be an ever-improving feature as I try to incorporate more complex optimization strategies.

Thank you to all of the internal testers for FlightDeck!

If I delete something from a kneeboard can it go to a "holding area" for that aircraft so that I can easily add it back?  I frequently customize what is in the kneeboard based on mission.

That is an interesting suggestion! I will add that to the backlog to investigate. Thanks for the feedback!

Of course, essentially each aircraft would have all my kneeboard pages in a "master list" (aircraft specific) and I could select which ones to add and remove from the "live" kneeboard folder at any given time.  Removing from the "live folder" would not remove it from the master list.  That way I can drop in kneeboard pages for carrier ops if needed, or weapon specific references based on loadout, etc...  Bonus points for being able to click on an 'add' button to browse and select new pages to add to each aircraft master list:)

Hello @Rinz1er. I just wanted to drop in and thank you for making this and sharing it with the community!

I featured Flight Deck on the last 2 episodes of my podcast ("The Hangar Bay") so hopefully that will bring a few more folks your way who will try it out and provide some feedback.

Quick question: Given the announcement in this week's newsletter about ED developing their own new launcher, do you still plan to continue developing Flight Deck? It looks like you'll still have some key features that one will be missing initially so it would be great if you continue working on it, but I'd also understand if you choose not ton continue.

Thanks again for all your hard work!

Hey!

Thank you for featuring FlightDeck on your podcast. It means a lot to me truly!

As for the future of FlightDeck, I do intend to continue to support and continue to add features to it even in the light of ED's launcher news. The question right now is whether it remains a launcher or if some of the other features will be broken out and expanded on like the kneeboard manager.

Loving the app. Super straight forward yet powerful.

I am having an issue with the kneeboard tab though. My kneeboards are in the correct folder (Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Kneeboard). However the list is incomplete compared to my modules installed, they are all blanked and when I click on any of them a folder (DCS\*Aircraft Module Name*) is created in my savegames folder.

Same situation for VR Options and Graphics Sttings tabs. Wants to write to (Saved Games\DCS) when my save games folder is as above. Anything that points to the Saved Games folder is looking for DCS instead of DCS.openbeta.

Hi Rinz1er,

I've been looking for an app to manage DCS startup for a while to replace powershell script.  This works very well, thank you!

Please can you update the Discord invite?  I have a couple of suggestions I'll like to discuss.
