I know this is possible, but the guidance logic in Shrike is really weird, so I'm writing a bug report. In my tests, the mk 22 tends to chase Russian-made stuff, the mk 25 tends to chase American-made stuff, and the mk36 tends to chase everything but prioritizes the fa-18(even with f-15e, jf-17, mig-31).

I wonder if this is a bug or by design.null

Don't nail me down, but I think I heard in an interview that it is theoetically possible that the passive search head could also recognize aircraft radars😄

There was even an incident where a HARM apparently tracked the B52's gunner fire control radar and hit the bomber.

Yeah, Shrike is fairly dumb. It's basically a Sparrow tuned into known SAM radar frequencies instead of your own reflections. If a radiation source matches its seeker tuning, it will chase it. It's not particularly picky about where these radio waves come from, and being derived from the Sparrow, it certainly has the performance to hit airborne targets.

The HARM incident was different, in that the pilot actually locked it onto the B-52's turret FCR, because he thought it was a hostile ground-based radar.

Still it tracks the aircraft with radar pointing into opposite direction. You can can claim this is due to the backlobe, but, there is sizable amount of metal in between and I think this should not take place.

WARNING: my discord account was taken over. I did recover it, but process of applying preventive measures is still ongoing.

Do you know what the actual target was?

That definitely sounds like a bug. I don't think the backlobe would be strong enough for that.

So I tested a few and the F18, for example, I could only shoot from the angle where the radar was looking, the shrike didn't track from behind

my mistake, was watching over phone and miss-judged the aspect of target. 😞
