Squiggs Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Holy guacamole it is 100x better and that's with a desktop mount and my arm on a weird angle. I don't know how I flew with a keyboard and mouse before (especially helicopters!). Even with just using the twist grip, flying a helicopter is now not an exercise in finger strain from constantly tapping keys. Now just waiting for my rudder pedals and the chair to turn up and it will be heaven. Now I have to work out what to make all the buttons do. 2
Slippa Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Maybe take a look at chucksguides? He’s posted comprehensive guides to a lot of modules with suggested bindings. Could help work out what to bind where, then it’s just a matter of practice to memorise. Enjoy . 1
MAXsenna Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Only a 100x? Which did you get? If you like the twist grip, you'll love pedals. (Hopefully the twist is lockable). Congrats and enjoy! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk 1

I will check them out when I get a proper module. For now just playing the Su25T and the UH60 mod. I am planning to get a couple of modules and maps when the next sale is on and when Afghanistan is released on Steam. 3 hours ago, MAXsenna said: Only a 100x? Which did you get? I think the twist is lockable but haven't figured out how to do it yet. Out of curiosity, in clickable cockpit planes like the TF51D, how do people interact with the clicking? Off the stick, or just have the mouse off to the side? Edited May 29, 2024 by Squiggs

Congrats, very good choice. VKB is a very solid brand. Some people use "premade" mapping, but I prefer to do it by myself. I find it easier to remember my mappings like that (start with the "basics" axis-flaps-brakes-gears-trim, then map your most used functions). 36 minutes ago, Squiggs said: Out of curiosity, in clickable cockpit planes like the TF51D, how do people interact with the clicking? Either I hold my stick with weak hand and use dominant hand for the mouse, or I just level-flight all-trimmed, and I leave the stick for less than 5 seconds. 2

I have a mouse on my right, and a trackball on the left. There are various "mice solutions" you can get and wear on your fingers, while I haven't tried any currently. You've got head tracking yet?Cheers! EDIT: I have center mounted sticks/cyclic, and it's actually very easy to learn to fly with the left hand. Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk
Slippa Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Good shout on head-tracking Max. I started and learnt without any but it wasn’t long before I got trackIR sorted and now I wouldn’t be without it. I’m pretty ambidextrous, write with my left but fly with my right mostly. If and when I need to I’ll steady it with my left hand and use the mouse with my right. I got table mounts for all the bits too, very handy. A lot of people have much better setups than I do, some have sim-pits that make the mind boggle. One fella in Oz is building a sim-pit in the shell of a real aircraft. He’s not messing about . You’ll sort it out and make it work. Nice HOTAS btw. Oh and since you fly choppers too, check out Tobi & Eightballs OH-6A if you haven’t already, it’s a blast and won’t cost anything unless you wanna buy em a beer or whatnot. 1

I have AItrack coupled with Opentrack for the time being but I want to get a Quest down the track. I had an original Oculus dev kit back in 2013 or whenever they came out and had a bit of a play around with it in DCS world back then and remember thinking it was really cool. 1
