Hi pilots,

now this is interesting! A "target state estimator" that can be used with the gun, for computer calculation where to point the gun in front of a moving target to hit a moving target.

Very useful to hit fast moving boats. Unfortunately I have only found this YouTube Short and not the full video where this function is explained in detail, that´s why I need to ask:

What button is the target state estimator casmo is talking about?

The TSE is described in detail on page 317 of the official Early Access Guide that comes with the module:

The Guide is well worth the read for someone that is new to the module, and who hasn't been here from the beginning.  The TSE was not yet modeled when the Apache was first released into EA, so Casmo was talking about how much better the gun works after the TSE was added to the module.

Another recommendation would be to go back and watch the catalog of Wags' videos that he releases every time a new feature is added in a patch update.  He discusses the TSE in this video from roughly 2 years ago.  There are 46 videos in the AH-64D playlist so far.

This is awesome, it was always very hard hitting targets 2 miles away (or is the distance in kilometers in the TADS?). With this new feature the gun is way more useful.

So the usage for target state estimator is linear motion compensator + clicking laser range finder second detent for continuous lasing enables this computer-assisted deflection shooting? Awesome I will try that in the evening 🙂

This feature is very useful for Hellfires too, sometimes very fast moving targets on roads are not getting hit by Hellfires. They somehow maybe loose track or get lost or something (countdown goes to zero but no explosion) when a target is driving really fast, even with perfect continuous lasing. Target state estimator will solve that problem.

LMC isn't required, only continuous lasing. LMC can assist the CPG in keeping the crosshairs stable on a target, which results in more accurate TSE calculations, but TSE is employed any time the laser is fired using 2nd detent like Brad mentioned in his comment above.

As stated in the manual excerpt that Floyd posted above, TSE performs ballistic calculations for unguided munitions against moving targets. It does not affect the AGM-114 missiles, because the missiles use their own onboard guidance and steering toward the laser designation.

Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man.
