[Resolved] Start up flight controls test, 2nd rudder-kick

Hi,

I've been learning the start-up and have been running into an issue during flight controls test.

I seem to only be able to do one side of the ARI check, where the crew chief tells me that the rudder is back to neutral after engaging yaw stab and pulling the lever on the stick. When I do the same sequence on the other side (stick all the way to the side, yaw stab on (hear rudder kick)), when I pull the lever on the stick I do not get the ' rudder neutral' by the crew chief on this second side. Looking from the outside, the rudder does neutralize. It also does not seem to matter which side I test first, it's always the second side that doesn't work.

Thanks for looking into this. I've tested on different maps during cold start instant action missions.

By the way, I also absolutely love how the plane has all the REMOVE tags without the helmet on. Thanks for all these details 🙂

So I gave this a test following the procedures as listed in the manual.

Flight Controls Check

The Crew Chief should confirm all flight control positions. Slats and Flaps should be OUT AND DOWN.

  • Pitch trim - 1 TO 3 UNITS NOSE DOWN
  • Control stick - PULL FULL AFT AND RELEASE
    • Movement forward should be smooth and free of any restriction. The stick may not return to the full forward position. The stick should move forward at least to the ½ travel position and further movement toward the stop should require no more than one pound push force. (Chief should report stabilator positions)
  • Rudder - CHECK FULL TRAVEL LEFT AND RIGHT (Chief should report rudder positions)
  • Ailerons/ARI - CHECK
    • Move control stick full left. Confirm left spoiler up, right aileron down and rudder slightly left. Engage yaw stab aug. Confirm rudder move further left (Chief should report "KICK"). Depress emergency quick release lever. Confirm rudder move toward neutral (Chief should report). Release emergency quick release lever, neutralize stick and disengage yaw stab aug. Repeat check substituting right for left

On the Ailerons check as via the aforementioned procedure I was able to get the confirmation of rudder kick and rudder neutral when using the emergency quick release lever on both right and left sides.

But if i tried to do it fast it did seem to not report the rudder position consistently, I think I must of been cutting the crew chiefs replies and the crew chief stopped responding to that first input and then went to respond to the next? - I guess that interrupts and prevents that sequence of action and reply/response?  When I deliberately paused for a few seconds between each step it reported correctly each time. So for me; that was stick full left - crew chief confirms, wait a few seconds Stab Aug Yaw on - crew chief confirms the kick, wait a few seconds and then squeeze the emergency quick release lever and hold - crew chief reports neutral.  Centre stick, Stab Aug Yaw off, then repeat for the right side and it worked fine.

Thanks I’ll give it another try, maybe I was rushing it too much. I’ll report back

Yep, that was it. Just need to hold the horses and not rush to get up in the air 🙂

I'm having the same issue. Not a peep from the Crew Chief after getting the okay for the ARI - Check. Followed the above and get a time out from the CC. I'll keep trying to see if I can get it to work.

Cheers,

John

Flight Control Check: Since the recrent update my crewchief doesn´t report the rudder kick with full aileron deflection and stab aug engagement (and no return to normal while using the paddle, abviously). No matter how slowly done, no matter how much time since last control movement. No matter if left or right. I didn´t change a thing on my control setup.

Most of the times when getting this report it was either a procedure mistake or the hardware setup not actually reaching full deflection.

Do you have a track at hand, then we can investigate. Cheers :)

Will check for the registered deflection and provide track. Procedure-wise: done as before the patch, as in real life and as per the manual.

edit: Just tried again. Nellis, normal Startup. Flight Control Check with Aileron left worked fine, right didn´t want to register kick initially. Deflections full as per control window. Kick worked on second try. Did another flight control check after ready for taxi with flaps down - no kick at all possible. See track.  (End of track with airborne part is for the trim issue 😉   ).

Hi, so a bug was indeed detected which caused the crew chief to not call "rudder neutral" in some cases. The fix is already prepared and should be in soon, thanks for all your input 😉

EDIT: should be fixed now 😉
