GeoS72 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 There are some issues with parking slots at King Abdullah II airport. The size of the helicopter parking slots are too small for the Mi-8MTV2 Hip & Mi-24P Hind. There are about 10 slots available but it looks like more should be available. The only available slots are 03 - 06, 41 - 44, 46, and 48. The remaining slots that should be able to park them are: 11-16, 18 - 19, 21 - 28, 45, 47, and 49. That is 19 slots that cannot accommodate these larger helicopters. I'd also like to point out that slots 03 - 06 are for larger fixed wing slots. Refer to the image that indicates the slots in red that do not allow Mi-8/Mi-24 parking. The green area will allow Mi-8/Mi-24 parking. 1
western_JPN Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Hi. In comparing satellite photos by Google Earth / Google Maps, North-west area (slots 11-16, 18-19, 21-28) may allow 20 m X 20 m size helicopters in historical. UH-60 and AH-1 (RJAF's units in KA-II) are inside it. Not for Mi-8 or Mi-24 IRL maybe. South-east 45 and 47 may allow 30 m X 30 m size as same as slots 41-44. Those two slots should be made wider and available for Mi-8 / -24 as you say. 1 Modules: A-10C/II, F-4E, F-5E(Re), F-14A/B, F-15E, F-16C, F/A-18C, AV-8B, FC3, Ka-50-2/3, UH-1H, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, Mi-24P, AH-64D, CH-47F, P-51D, F4U-1D Maps: Nevada, PG, Syria, SA, Sinai, Kola, Afghanistan, Iraq, CW Germany, Channel, Normandy2.0 Assets etc.: CA, Sc, WW2AP Mods and Skins in User Files: files/filter/user-is-western0221/
GeoS72 Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 When setting Mi-8/Mi-24 to "Take off from Ground Hot" in those locations, I see no discernible difference to the size of the landing pad. I would argue that half of the helicopter slots cannot be used for either airframe. I measured out the width of the pads in the ME. Slots 11 - 16, 18 - 19, and 21 - 28 measure ~68 ft (21 m) wide. The width of slots 41 - 44, 46, and 48 measure ~60 ft (18 m) wide. While I appreciate the realism factor, the larger "locked" parking slots cannot handle the Mi-8/Mi-24 while the smaller "unlocked" slots can handle them. Does that make sense to anyone? Once again, I petition to open the slots to accommodate the larger helicopters. 1
western_JPN Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 (edited) In satellite photos shot on 17/Mar./2023, 27/Oct./2021, 2/Feb./2017, 16/Aug./2015, 17/Jun./2013 , each slots 41 - 48 (containing 45,47) have one more white dashed lines showing 30 m X 30 m limit, not drawn on DCS terrain module though. To request more historical detail to UM, adding those white dashed lines there, instead. You are way to hopeful By rough average, reported bugs on this map take about a year to fix. The release cycle is also slower no that the OB system has moved to just one release.
GeoS72 Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 Yes, you are correct. The Sinai map has a laundry list of bugs that need to be addressed. One of my other issues is the TACAN channel conflict.
