Hi everyone,

Bought the game a year (ish) ago, and it's great.

However, I have one little problem. Recently, I've been experimenting with the mission builder, and I was disapointed to find the submarines very one-dimensional.

Apart from the fact that their textures seem really simple, especially in comparison to everything else, they don't actually seem to do anything. I've tried with both types to fire torpedoes, and they never do. Also, I'm told the Kilo has a MANPADS system, but I can't get it to work.

I know this is no Dangerous Waters, but it's no tank simulator either, and yet some of the tanks and ground vehicles are stunning.

Am I doing something majorly wrong, or does anyone else have similar thoughts?

Not all ground/sea vehicles have been updated from LO standard yet. The 1.0.1 patch will update many from what I've been told, but focus is (obviously) on land vehicles.

If you want it improved, you can always fire up Blender or 3dSMax and make a new and more detailed Kilo model, and see if ED will implement it. :)

Hi Wasp. Welcome to the forums.

Your question is not tupid at all, but your title could be better:

"Submarine models"

"Ugly submarines"

"Torpedoes from AI subs possible?"

Whatever is representative of the SUBJECT.

Enjoy the sim.

Hi, thanks for the response.

Two questions; can you actually get your submarines to fire SAMs or torpedoes?

Also, do we know when the 1.0.1 patch will be out?

Thanks.

Submarines are just targets to be destroyed.

Reminds me of another wet dream of mine - please please please get Kamov to help you guys make a DCS-standard sim of the Ka-27 ASW helicopter. Preferably with co-op multiplayer letting one player be the sonar/tactical officer. :D

I know, probably not the biggest market out there so probably won't happen, but I would love flying a trusty Kamov to chase down some naughty 688's. :)

You could pick up Dangerous Waters. It simulates eight platforms: 688 class, Seawolf, Akula, and Kilo, plus the P-3 Orion, Perry Class Frigate, and - lastly - the SH-60 Seahawk.

The actual flight simulation portion of it is of course lacking, since it really serves only to put you over a target. However, the ASW systems on all the platforms are well-modeled. It's another sim like DCS:BS where you have to read and learn that manual, learn how to read waterfall displays, plot target tracks, etc.. It's very deep.
