Hi, I am finding sometimes I'll look down at the autopilot and the 3 lights that are supposed to be on will be turned off. When would these lights shut themselves off?

Also, It's kind of neat that you can walk around after ejecting. Is there any way to do this without ejecting? Would be neat to "pre-flight" the aircraft, or I guess I should say goof around and check out the impressive modeling.

I should note I am having a HELL of a time with flight control/trim understanding. I have a Logitech Force 3D pro, and I have spend alot of time trying to figure out the best axis settings, but it is still incredibly twitchy, and with the above problem I seem to be getting worse, not better.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you certain that they are really off?

I had a problem with sometimes not being able to see the light on them until I lowered my antialiasing.

Yeah, they're off. I have to click them on again.

I have noticed something else that drives me nuts- I have been using "Instant Action" to test my joystick settings because it's quick, however something is totally different- Auto hover doesn't work, and if pull up the ctrl-Enter joystick window, the default position of the joystick is way up and too the left as opposed to center over the crosses. Resetting trim puts it back there. It's really screwy.

Hi Sherlock,

Are you sure you don't have the autohover engaged and have went below 4 meters? I know that will shut down the autopilot I never had it kick off for no apparent reason. Maybe you can post a track to see what is happening during the flight.

I'm not sure of that- that could very well be the reason. I wasn't really noticing alt, but I was fairly low. I've found a few times the buttons won't turn back on though. Odd huh?

As for the instant action thing, I would love for somebody to explain that. Can i post screenshots?

Are you certain that the instant action mission is loading in Real Mode, rather than Game Mode? In the settings screen, have you checked "Use these settings for all missions"?

As for the AP, there are several things which could cause the behavior you're seeing. As already mentioned, engaging autohover below 4m RAlt will do this. Also, loss of power, systems damage, and flying very far outside of the normal flight envelope can lead to AP shutoff.

Hi Sherlock,

you can post screens..... but when this happens when your flying at the end of the mission in the middle it says "save track" that would be better because we could see what you were doing just before it happened. Sometimes it happens before you think it actually does and this would be helpful might just be something you didn't realize you were doing.

No I didn't check that. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it and see if that fixes it.

Ok, I will do that next time it happens.

No one can answer this question. I asked about it a long time ago.

I've had it happen in a rock solid hover, well over 4 meters. I'm usualy head down working the schval, when the bird starts going crazy for no reason, and its always those 3 autopilot channels switching themselves off.

The question's already been answered in this thread. Once again, here are the reasons:

Usually, the AP disengages when engaging auto hover below 4m radio alt.

However, power loss (probably the second most common reason), systems damage, exiting the normal flight envelope, as well as a variety of other circumstances can lead to this. In all there are probably dozens of reasons for which AP shutoff would occur. Thus the only way to properly diagnose why it happens in any given case is to analyze a track file.

Another reason would be that, if you are set in Autohover mode and you somehow slide too far off your hold point, your AP channels will disengage.

I had similar problems with the autopilot while my firend whom I fly with did not, so I trained myself to be able to hover on demand even with my head view down (noticing the slight head movements is how I can 'feel' drift). I click all of the blue buttons on, which I believe disables the assist from the FLCS and it makes things ten times easier. I havn't used AP since. Maybe that will work for you as well.
