Just wondering if anyone else suffers from this problem?

Real mode, immortal on, inf' ammo, target practice.

I have no problem trimming, resetting trim etc or bringing the helo to a manual hover, but I've noticed now on several occasions the following scenerio:-

Will have killed a good few targets from 2 or 3 different auto hover positions I then move on to the next target group, trim, angle up to say 40* speed drops to below 50, vector line on hud comes on, manual achieve almost hover position, trim, stabilise, then hit the autohover buttons.

At this point the auto hover instead of operating the way it has on the previous 2-4 times will start to make the helo wallow in pitch and yaw, and if left alone will result in eating dirt. At this point the helo seems to have lost some of its previous level of control but is still flyable!

Even If I turn AH off and stabilise it again (reset trim, achieve almost hover again, trim) and the turn AH on again it results in the same wallowing motion again!:(

This seems to happen on an intermittent mission by mission basis but once it occurs there is no way to regain a stable AH again.

This is really putting a damper on my enjoyment of BS right now.

Any ideas? anyone else suffering from the same problem?

BTW I did a search, but none of the Auto Hover posts seem to mention or address this issue.

Is there any chance that you get close to the ground before this happens? Like 2-4 meters? If you get to close the AP systems go offline automatically and you have to turn them back on.

You also need to be properly trimmed when engaging AH mode. So when you slow down to enter the hover trim off at level flight with very little or no movement. I've found that you can engage the AH mode between 0-8mph/kph and the system will be able to take control. But I'm still new at this like you so hopefully the more experienced will answer!

It sounds very much like your AP is being disabled when you hit autohover. That would explain why the helicopter has "lost some of its previous levels of control". Automatic AP shutoff is usually a result of initiating autohover below 4m radio altitude. It's a safety feature designed to disengage the AP whenever there's a chance that the AP will fly you into the ground. The solution is to simply stay higher before engaging AP. At 4m you'll be kicking up a pretty hefty dust cloud and increasing your visibility (even to the AI) anyhow.

No where near the deck, somewhere about 150 alt when engaging the AH, same as the previous hover attack setups I did in the mission.

The thing thats irritating me is that it happens out of the blue, on a run of the mill hover setup!

Then the next thing I would think of would be power loss. Specifically, if you forgot to enable the AC generators, or your engines aren't putting out enough power to run them, then you'll be flying on batteries. When those batteries start getting low, non-critical systems start to shut down.

Anyway, besides the above, there are dozens of other reasons for this to happen. The only way to diagnose it with certainty is for you to record a track and post it here the next time it happens.

Guess I'll just have wait for it to happen again, and post the track for you knowledgable people have a look see!

Thanks

I had a similar issue when I was using racing pedals for a rudder... What rudder have you got? For some reason the game (especially the auto hover) won't work with anything else than a proper set of flight rudder pedals...

Never say never, Baby!

Hi Spudmonkey,

I was wondering if you maybe had the auto turn to target on by chance

and the seeker pointing in a weird way?

I know what your talking about Spudmonkey,

Last night was in a mission and had just moved to my 4th hover position to clean up the last of the soft and arty targets and I couldn't get the craft to hover, had altitude, auto turn off, the 4 auto pilot helps on and they were lit, auto pilot track off "r", Held trim to hover with the worm too zero. release trim, engage auto hover and it just starts to rock slowly forward and back and slip to the left. I'd been in the mission for about one hour so don't think its electrical. Ended up going in with guns in the end. Its not the first time its happened. Can the trim memory be reset because it was like I was fighting the trim ?

Cheers, Gav

You didn't happen to save a track, did you?

No pedals, joystick z axis.

Yes that sounds like what I'm suffering from, tried to get it to happen last night but no luck, but what I did find out was that if you turn all the AP aids off, it does exactly the same thing ie handling and unable to achieve steady hover, I use all on except Alt Hold.

Gav, Try turning all your AP aids off and see if you think it replicates the same fault were talking about.

spudmonkey, check your joystick center position in your game controller settings if it happens again, my center was 13 % off . I unplugged the logitech extreme pro USB and plugged it back in and was good to go. I think this was my problem.
