Air-Force-1 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) My setup is as follows XP PRO 32 sp3 dx 9c 250 GIG RAPTOR ATI 4870 INTEL 8500 3 GIG CORE 2 DUO 700 WATT PSU 4 GIG CORSAIR 1066 (3.33 GIG for xp 32) P5Q DELUXE mobo Nothing is overclocked and all is running at low temps. Freeze occurs usually after 10 mins and requires a full reboot I have tried various ATI drivers and settings, but always get a freeeze in MP or SIM mode. Any ideas? It must be a BS problem as my rig uses twice as much juice when video editing , and plays FS X on full with excellent fps  Thanks Edited May 19, 2009 by Air-Force-1
saa Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I also experience screen freezes. I can’t find any pattern to them as they sometimes occur after a couple of minutes or after an hour or so.DCS-20090519-112414.zipsysinfo.txt
Air-Force-1 Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Thanks, kind of dissappointing isnt it  I cant beleive it after all the testing that was done. Perhaps some relics in this sim from LOMAC which had similar problems. I think it has been released too early also, too many bugs etc. Edited May 19, 2009 by Air-Force-1
Slick Twitchy Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I also have this problem. I have asked for support from this forum, and received some help, but nothing fixed the problem. Kuky Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Do any of you use more than one monitor? Have you tried Catalyst 8.12 driver? Updated motherboard BIOS and installed latest motherboard chipset driver (Intel INF update)? I think sound could also be causing lockups as sound is bit buggy for me in both LockOn and BS under vista and windows 7 but not in XP. You could also try running 2 stick of RAM also or if you want to run all 4 you could go into motherboard BIOS and increase NB voltage just a tad above normal. I am very interested to see how is FSX dependent on CPU / GPU? Does anyone have some tests with overclocked and non overclocked CPU and VGA while running FSX? I am suspecting FSX would be more inclined to be bottlenecked by GPU then CPU because of less complexity in FM compared to DCS and lack of all avionics etc while having more emphesys on visuals only. 1 Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi MB | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC AIO 360 | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD x2 | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | HOTAS Cougar+MFG Crosswind ... and waiting on Pimax Crystal Super VR headset & DCS MiG-29A release

FSX is CPU bound just like BS but for different reasons. though the flight model in FSX may not be as complex; weather simulation over surfaces is not accurate [1] as blackshark, both find the cpu is the bottleneck and not the gpu. so where does all the cpu go in fsx? in the huge scenery, dynamic scenery, AI traffic et al - a known frame-rate killer, something sadly that the gpu does little about. for an extensive analysis of fsx performance, google 'fsx sli' or check out the following article. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTI2Miw0LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== basically on a sli 8800 gtx, you can happily change AA all the way up to 16x before you notice a difference in FPS. "What this shows us is that with BFGTech GeForce 8800 GTX SLI we are not GPU limited in this game until we hit 16X AA, so basically 8X AA is for free, at least on the Intel platform." Air-Force-1 Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 It might be better if we have a thread showing what PC rigs can actually run BS with no errors
EtherealN Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Well, strength-wise there is nothing wrong with your machine at all. To me your error sounds a driver problem. I gather you were not given any error files from windows, dx or DCS?
