Nzaviator Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 In a hover or flying even slightly backwards the pitot system will cause the Air speed indicator to show the climbing speed of the aircraft. Pitot works on forward ram air so in a hovering climb should read zero or near zero. sometimes will show 40+ knots (speed at which the aircraft is moving vertically) not forward.
ED Team Lord Vader Posted September 3, 2024 ED Team Posted September 3, 2024 Hello @Nzaviator Though I understand what you're saying, can you create a short track with this happening, especially when you mention reaching speeds like 40kts? Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
G-Tech Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Tried this is in the UH-1H, no airspeed on vertical climb. CH-47F has air speed on the vertical? Got up to 60 knots. Track below. Vertical climb air speed .trk
ED Team Lord Vader Posted September 4, 2024 ED Team Posted September 4, 2024 Hi @G-Tech Thanks for the track. It's acceptable to have some residual IAS in vertical flight but this sounds a bit much. I'll send it to internal analysis. 1 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
