MStewart40 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 I am needing some insight please. I've had my Crystal light, local dimming version for a couple months now, and love the clarity I see with it, but right from the beginning I was noticing like a pixelation issue around the outside area of the sweet spot, it would be a small area that would come and go in different places. I also have an issue of when trying to fly at night it's like looking through a fog or through frosted lens, everything is washed out and blurry. I contacted Pimax tech support, they said it was due to faulty lens and would send me replacement lens, well almost months later I received the replacement lens yesterday. Last night I tested with the new lens installed and still have the same issues but one thing I did have happen was when I loaded into a nighttime flight the headset loaded a clear night view for a few seconds and then reverted back to the washed-out foggy view. I emailed Pimax support telling them the issues were not resolved with the new lenses; now they want to send another set of lenses saying the replacement set must also be defective. Personally, I don't think it's anything to do with the lenses and it's a headset problem but I'm certainly no expert on how these headsets work. What do you guy's think the issue is, headset or lenses? Thanks for any advice
tikijoetots37 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 I have the crystal, I can't help you with the first question but the fog around the lenses is due to the local dimming being set too high. Turn it down from Extreme or whatever the max setting is to the next one down and you should be good to go. 1

Calvin.Pimax Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Pixelation around the sweetspot? Do you have the foveated rendering enabled?

No, don't have foveated rendering enabled. had to lower local dimming to the lowest setting to get it to work correctly. The pixelation is way worse with the replacement lenses they sent me, going to put the original ones back in, problem seems to be really magnified around the clouds.
Calvin.Pimax Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Please report this back to the support team so they can work on it. Meanwhile, I'll also notify the developer team.

Meanwhile, I'll also notify the developer team. Calvin.Pimax, Yes, I have been in communications with Pimax tech support since the beginning of July. Now to top off the issues, yesterday while returning the headset back to the original lenses as the replacements were considerably worse, the little brass threaded grommet that the screw goes into that holds the lenses in place fell out inside the headset. I was initially wondering why the screw wasn't tight in the right lens when I first swapped out the lenses, it was because the brass grommet wasn't secured properly in the headset and must have been just spinning. So now I have no way to secure the right lens in place. As much as I like this headset, I'm not very impressed with Pimax's quality control! 1
Calvin.Pimax Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Please mention this to the support and share the ticket number with me, I'll take a look into it with the team.

MStewart40 Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 Pimax, really needs to do something about their customer service! They ask to me to return my headset for a replacement, which I did they received it a week ago, as I see through the tracking number on the shipment. I have not received anything from Pimax, as to when they plan to replace the headset, they just don't respond to emails. This is really starting to get frustrating!

Calvin.Pimax Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Let me check with the after-sales team. The support team is working in shifts, but I'll do my best to get them to respond to your ticket.

I shipped the headset to San Jose, CA and last time I checked we don't recognize China's holidays, but then, who knows in California.

You must have some good mojo Calvin every time you respond to a complaint, I get a reply from Pimax. I received an email this morning confirming that my replacement headset has been shipped, which is good as I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms. Thanks again for offering your assistance to help, I appreciate it. Interestingly, I don't even have a ticket number anymore, I was just communicating directly with Pimax support for the last 2 months via email. 1
Calvin.Pimax Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Haha, it’s great to see progress! You're very welcome! I hope the replacement works perfectly right out of the box. 1
Hawkeye_UK Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Guys i have read up, and still confused about the local dimming option, which is now a slider. On the Pimax Crystal (original) i have the same issues at night, almost like looking through into a foogy cockpit, gamma at 1.5 in game, brightness at 0.90 in pimax play. I have local dimming set to 0.999 as believe this to be the best setting?> Can someone explain how do i get my blacks to be black at night in the cockpit and not suffer the horrible looking light blurred and over saturation (in plain english also and idiot proof as i need both lol) 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DCS & BMS F4E | F14B | AV-8B | F15E | F18C | F16C | F5E | F86 | A10C | JF17 | Viggen |M2000 | F1 | L-39 | C101 | Mig15 | Mig21 | Mig29 | SU27 | SU33 | F15C | AH64 | MI8 | Mi24 | Huey | KA50 | Gazelle | CH47 | OH58D | P47 | P51 | BF109 | FW190A/D | Spitfire | Mossie | CA | Persian Gulf | Nevada | Normandy | Channel | Syria | South Atlantic | Sinai | Kola | Afgan | Iraq Liquid Cooled ROG 690 13700K @ 5.9Ghz | RTX3090 FTW Ultra | 64GB DDR4 3600 MHz | 2x2TB SSD m2 Samsung 980/990 | Pimax Crystal/Reverb G2 | MFG Crosswinds | Virpil T50/CM3 | Winwing & Cougar MFD's | Buddyfox UFC | Winwing TOP & CP | Jetseat
