HMCS display gone in MP mid-flight

Hey,

Wondering if this is something I did or what's up. Lost my HMCS mid-flight

On MP server,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Cold Start goes fine, HMCS Brightness dial full right, Aligned the HMCS fine, Declutter on lvl 1, Blanking left as is on HMCS page DED default. HMCS is on during takeoff and climb out. Got busy with stuff and then noticed I have no HMCS a little while later. So I pressed DMS-Down-Long to turn it back on... Nothing. Never got it back.

Checked whether DMS Down was bound correctly and working and it's fine.

Is this incorrect?

I know DMS Down long turns the HMCS off, but I've been away for a while. Doesn't DMS Down long turn it back on too?

I've seen several posts of ppl having their HMCS "disappear, but invariably as I read the thread, they're unaware that DMS Down Long turns it off and they didn't know or notice they'd done that. That was the first thing I did.

DMS Down Long will still reactivate your HMCS if you turned it off that way.

Is there any chance you raised your visor? That would also disable your HMCS.

Hey @Trespasser

We tried this and a long TMS aft press indeed removed and reactivated the symbology.

Please check your HOTAS settings or button assignments to confirm you're doing the right procedure.

Confirmed doing it correctly and binds are working. I had to re-slot and it worked fine in my next viper. So haven't been able to re-peat the offending action if it was me. Tested turning it on/off on the ground and it was fine.

Very curious. I was unaware one could do this, what the effects are or what the keybind is. Therefore I have to conclude it is a possibility as I may indeed have done it inadvertently.

Will chk controls for the option.

Just checked. I think this must be it. So thank you for that!

Been away so I really don't recall this being an option, BUT it was bound. Whaaat!

I have a VKB Gunfighter, so there is a 4 way + Depress hat that I use for Display Management. At some point I def bound that Depress to toggling the visor. So it's very likely that I depressed that as I was "Mashing" the DMS aft to turn on the HMCS. Totally reasonable assumption. (Unfortunately I never hit F2 during this so I nvr noticed if I had flipped the visor up)

As far as I can see is this seems to be mostly a quality of life feature for the pilot body animation?

Other than "turning off" the hmcs, I haven't seen a difference in visual changes / acuity etc looking out while using or not using the visor (e.g. no polarization etc)

Is there a use case for the Visor toggle in the DCS F16? I need to test more. If that is the case, not only is this resolved, I got an xtra depress. Yes pls.🫡

EDIT: Asked-and-Answered. Quick forum search shows it's primarily for the animation currently. Got it.

I do love the below comment though. bwaahahaa! I was on Grayflag yesterday at Sun up. Couldn't see Sh!z with all the glare lol.

(DCS is just too pretty with ultra settings and a good Reshade, I refuse to lower that so I can see properly. Prolly negatively impacting my K/D ratio though)

Cheers to you both
