JG54_NF2 Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 The current DCS version of the bomber (AI) uses cruise missiles which are very rookie. These cruise missiles can only travel in a straight line to the target and cannot set a path to bypass air defense interception like in reality. However, similar functions have been implemented on the aircraft used by players, such as JF17's CM-802AKG and FA18's SLAM-ER. As shown in the figure below, it is hoped to add similar functions to the aircraft of AI units when performing cruise missile attacks, so that ME authors can mark the turning points of the aircraft launching cruise missiles on the map, and the missiles will eventually reach the actual target after passing through these turning points in sequence. This rule is relatively simple. When the "attack ground" command includes a turning point, the missile will go through all the turning points in numerical order before finally reaching the target. If this function is not enabled, the cruise missile will go directly to the target. This will greatly enrich the use of bombers and cruise missiles. 6
antiload Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) I too think a routing waypoints system for both ship launched and aircraft launched cruise missiles should really be implemented. It's difficult with their current straight line configuration to avoid geographical features and as you say SAM sites that will just take them out. Please ED add this feature, it will make this already amazing sim, fantastic. Edited January 31 by antiload 3
Exorcet Posted February 2 Posted February 2 This would be a great addition, but some level of automation is required here to avoid tedium and make the most of the ability. Having to set waypoints for every missile individually is going to be a lot of work. A couple of solutions to this problem would be: -Have an option automatically generated waypoints, they could be generated by attempts to maximize distance from air defenses or to avoid certain terrain (flat, mountains, water, road, city, etc) -Instead of adding waypoints per missile, have universal waypoints that can be referenced by all units. This way you can put down one waypoint and direct all bombers to use it for their missiles instead of putting down one waypoint for every bomber/missile. This would basically be this suggestion: 3 Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
