Spook1234567890 Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) 1) cdn,digitalcombatsimulator.com just times out. I have never had this problem before. Using a VPN will make it work but why should I have to pay for and use a VPN? This is also so much slower. I am only using Win 10 defender and it is flagging nothing so I assume my ISP is blocking the servers although they never have before. If this is the case why are they doing it? What has DCS NOT done to make ISPs block their servers? 2) Why do I need 226GB of free disk space for this update? This seems excessive... 3) Whenever an update fails for any reason I find that the .exes are missing from the DCS folder. Why doesn't the update process preserve the integrity of the current install if for example there is not enough disk space? This makes it much harder to update as I have to repair the current install first. 4) Also at the time of writing the sticky entitled ' Replacing your updater to troubleshoot ( not for steam )' does not seem to reference the latest updater and the post needs to be updated itself. Not that I can download the file without using a VPN of course. 5) In the sticky post Troubleshooting download connection problems the config file it says to download is no longer available. Kanelbolle Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) Hi! 1. This is something you have to contact your ISP about. It might be a routing problem on their network or their providers network. 2. DCS does not seam to do Binary delta compression updates. This would usually reduce the size of updates, but it means ED has to have a more complex update path in their software and servers. Replacing the whole file is usually the standard way to update software and makes updates large. Spook1234567890 Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Hi, Thanks, Kanelbolle, for your reply to my points 1 and 2! I had already contacted my ISP and have a case open with them. Based on my investigations it may well be that they have a bad server. I thought no harm in asking if there were things DCS side that might be causing it especially as this would be the first time my ISP(s) have been at fault (in this type of scenario) since my first dial up modem in the early 90s! I guess have been lucky! Reference the updates I understand however whenever it gets to a stage that it is more expedient to uninstall/reinstall rather than update it gets a bit tedious. I do have a solution though - stop buying DCS modules. I am just not sure that is what they are aiming for!
Kanelbolle Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) Yeah, only had this problem once.. they fixed it the next dey. Hope it works out for you The updates where to big for me as well, though it was the harddisk space that was the issue for me. I jus uninstalled all modules I don't use regularly. Was 98 GB for me, but I have a server to, so I had to download it twice Edited October 1, 2024 by Kanelbolle WARGAMES Servers: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/301046-wargames-server-pvp-and-pve-campaign-servers/ Scripts: RGC & SPGG https://github.com/AGluttonForPunishment/
