DCS:BS DVD versus download

Hi, I'm new to DCS-world and I'd like to buy DCS:BS, but I see there are 2 versions on digitalcombatsimulator.com :

1. "Online English Version" (or "English version for downloading", requires internet activation):

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

Price: $49.99

2. "DVD box English version":

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en&cat_sid=1

Price: $39.99

I suppose, the first one I could download and then activate (after paying, of course), the second one I'd get in a box, and moreover it is $10 cheaper (which I do not understand, I would expect box-version to be more expensive).

Are there any more differences in those versions? Does the "DVD box" version require internet activation too?

The dvd box uses the same activation/deactivation system as the download version. I don't understand the price difference either O_o

Is the price of bandwidth and all that goes with allowing a DLable version more then box version? That is a good question. Or it maybe just the market driving force. ED can sell the DL at any price it wants to set because it is in control. ED is at the mercy of price set my retailers to sell boxed versions. More profit for ED in the DL then the box version per box, but it reaches a larger audience sitting on shelves in stores so you need both. That is my take on it at least.

One other note though, if one wants to be supportive of ED in selecting a version, is that the box versions constitute an expense to ED, whereas there's little expense in the DL version before sale. So even if you select the cheaper boxed version, you're not being mean to ED either because TFC/ED would be recouping a prior expense in getting the discs to print.

As for which version is, in the end, best for ED financially, I have no clue.

I bought both the DL and the Box version so they got double the money from me.

Hi

I couldn't wait for the box version and purchased the download version, it downloaded and installed witout any problems at all.

It is a brilliant and realistic game and the online multiplayer is also very good.

You won't be disappointed, have fun.
