mbolan Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The speeds shown in the HUD, the ABRIS and Shkval can differ by as much as 30 - 40 kph at the same time. Can anyone explain why this is so please? Which of these speeds is most reliable and under which circumstances? I have had the ABRIS say I'm doing 40+ kph while the Shkval blithely tells me that I'm stationary. All help appreciated.
Frederf Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 HUD is radar groundspeed. Shkval is airspeed. ABRIS is GPS groundspeed.

GGTharos Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Your ground speed is useful for knowing how fast you're going to smash into something (ie. how fast you'll get to the next WP). ABRIS provides you with the same data pretty much - it might also help you to hover, though I personally try not to use it that way. The airspeed is useful for flight performance: 130 is your best climb rate, under 60 you're subject to VRS.
