To illustrate my problem, i will try to explain a situation here: Me and my wingman is 6-7 km. from the targets, that means we are inside the range to fire and hit with our missiles. I have locked a target on my Shkval, and here I could have pressed the fire button, and few seconds later, the target was destroyed, but to save my own ammunitions, I give my wingman an order to "attack my target". Instead of just shooting from this distance, he fly much closer to the target, and a lot of times, he will been shoot down.

That can I do to overcome this problem? Is it a wrong command to use, or have I completly misunderstand the way to complete the missions? I almost never come to close to the targets, I like to shoot them from long distances, but don't have enough missiles to complete the mission my self.

Wingman AI isnt very good at standoff engagements. Set an ingress point 5-7k distance from the target and command the wingman to attack the targets from there. Will try this over the weekend.

I also read here somewhere that giving the command to continue mission and return, or whatever the way the command is worded, works better for wingman to use stand off.

AI attack range depends of many variables, illumination, precipitation, visibility and AI skill.

For example, at dusk or overcast AI will steal up to target more closely than at clear day.

Also you can try increase an AI skill at first.

P.S.

AI don't see an labels in contrast to player. ;)

Lock on a target with your shkval then assign the target as a vehiecle or sam or other with your datalink then save it, it will apear on your abris navigation page, next reset weapon systems (shkval) and choose the target youve assigned by repressing the datalink button youve pressed until the target flashes on your abris navigation page and select which wingman you want to send to and finaly press send on the Datalink and comand your wingman to engage data link target (wingman 2/ engage/ Datalink targets) he will usualy move 20 meters away from you and fires a vikhir

I think thats what your looking for isnt it

When I do this, my AI wingman often shows his suicidal tendencies and after shoot one vikhir do the "death dive"... :music_whistling:

It's the "randon AI behavior" in DCS:BS... Wingman AI decisions! :smilewink:

this never hapens to me with datalink commands but just incase you might want to assign them a datalink point (the button next to the "other" on datalink bar) and send them to it (wingman 2/go to /datalink point) using commands and then command them to engage datalink targets youv've assigned them.

[q]My wingman OFTEN dies...[/q]

You're doing great. My wingman ALWAYS dies.

...But I usually live. And that's a trade-off I'm comfortable with. :)

:megalol:

Yesterday my AI wingman commited suicide in "CODA" with all my "engage datalink target" and setting a safe ingress point distance...

But I have a lot of fun rushing with rockets against the AAA in the terrorist base trying to save the daredevil fool and loosing part of the nose of my Ka-50!

Even the "suicidal wingman AI" give good moments in this superb simmulation! :pilotfly:
