I have a Reverb G2 which I like enormously, and I would like to keep using it as long as possible, which means until Windows 11 dumps WMR.

I have heard that the end of WMR comes with the 24H2 update, and that this will not become compulsory until late 2025 - can anybody confirm this?

Also, is it guaranteed that WMR will still work with the 23H2 updates - I have one pending to download but I’m nervous about it!

Thanks!

WMR still works with 23H2. You have to avoid 24H2.

PC Hardware: i9-12900k, RTX 3080 10GB, 32GB DDR5 4400MHz, NVME.2 Drives, Alienware 38" 3840x1600 144MHz Monitor, TrackIR Pro Clip, Pimax Crystal

Flight Controls: Winwing Orion 1 FA-18 Stick and Throttle HOTAS / Logitech Rudder Pedals

DCS Modules: Too many to list after the 15 year sale

We are all in the same boat, perfectly happy with my G2 as well and no current plan to upgrade. No issues so far if you stay with 23H2, I installed all the 23H2 updates and no issue with WMR.

As to how long we have, it is hard to find a firm answer. The drop dead date will be the final “end of service” date when MS tries to force everyone to update to 24H2. We should have at least a year to Nov. 2025. I have also seen a Nov. 2026 date. Based on the experience of 21H2 and 22H2, it could even be longer. There are also rumours that MS is planning to reverse its decision and produce its own line of WMR headsets which may mean a reprieve for existing WMR users. Bottom line, no one really knows.

well best bet is to stay on Win 10 and if you do have Win 11 if you have the pro version you can stay on 23h2 forever with gpedit.. Personnely I am staying on Win 10 until I can figure out what to do here.. I also have a G2

Keep in mind that you will stop getting security updates after the end of next year, so at that point you are risking getting hacked.
