I'm running a very high-end gaming PC but am continuing to have a few audio probs in BS, i.e. sometimes the tutorial voice-over plays and sometimes it doesn't. I'm concerned that I will not hear AI wingmens' voices too when I get that far into the sim. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

PS I checked and I do not have a hardware acceleration option in my audio properties.

Sorry Bahger, slow response in the chan - much latency in the air it seems :)

By the sound of it (yes, thats a pun!) you may have some additional codec packs or similar installed?

I would look for any media related stuff that you may have - and uninstall it. One by one, or everything at one go if you're lazy like me. :)

However - we cannot be sure that none of them have damaged your original codec in Windows.

Keep us updated to which kind of software you removed - it would be nice to know which bad boy messed up this one for you. :)

Now if it's not the case of incosistent / incorrect codecs - then it may be your audio drivers?

Updated it lately. If not, try to find the latest kit from your vendor.

If that doesn't help - hm, then we need some more fresh ideas.

You would have known if you had added any codecs - since you dont know what Im talking about, I think we can rule out that problem. For now. :)

Can you tell us a bit what system you have? List the hardware, cpu, mainboard, vendors, soundsystem, ram, os etc etc?

Thank you. It's a pretty sharp system:

Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core)

Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz

Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset)

System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Mushkin

Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition)

Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)

Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)

Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x)

Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 2GB (Includes PhysX Technology)

Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio

Hope this helps. I'm a bit bummed to have lost the commentary track.

(Edit: Vista 64-bit)

Okai, there's only three things that comes to mind right now.

1. The first post you said: "I checked and I do not have a hardware acceleration option in my audio properties"

I would enable it and test with it on - both at full - and one notch down (to the left) from full. Disabling hardware acceleration is something you do to troubleshoot - or get a workaround for an existing problem.

2. O/C - have you tried running your system vanilla - no O/C whatsoever? And using the hardware acceleration enabled at the same time?

3. Okai - builting soundsystem, X58 - same as mine. Hm. Mine is working here, but Im running on Win7 64-bit. Downloaded drivers - have you tried if there are any supplied at the Windows Update? The should be WHQL certified - and may give you a different result.

And still, perform the tests on a vanilla non O/C system :)

have you tried win7... just a thought.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Thank you for sticking with me on this. Requested info below...

Maybe I'm being an idiot here so please bear with me; I see no hardware acceleration option in my audio properties menu, so how do you advise me to proceed? Are you saying it's there but I'm not seeing it? Or did you mean in-game, where I don't see it under audio options either?

2. O/C - have you tried running your system vanilla - no O/C whatsoever? And using the hardware acceleration enabled at the same time?

No, I have not disabled the system manufacturer's (CPU only) overclocking settings. I will investigate. Carefully.

Do you mean audio drivers? As Windows updates? I'll look for those for Vista 64x. Sorry but what is WHQL certified?

Again, many thanks for your help in trying to debug this.

1. Sorry - my bad, Vista doesn't have hardware acceleration - you're right. And i misinterpreted your first post as "I have turned acceleration off". You're allowed to slap me for that one. ;)

I wasnt aware that this was permanently removed from DirectSound.

3. Just means it's been tested throughly by MS - it's a certification for "this thing should work for most people and less problems than the NON-WHQL drivers". Basicly I just wondered if you had tested a few different drivers - at least the "Latest and/or certified ones". ;)

Not that I think we'll get any further .. Im quite skeptical - but I have no other ideas for you. Sorry.

Well - defraggin your harddrives - but then again I doubt it will help, it shouldnt.
