ju-88s pilots/gunners/bombardiers seemingly cannot be killed

I'm not sure if a similar topic existed before, but wanted to bring it up anyway.

- It is impossible to kill the JU88s pilots, gunners, and a bombardier.

I've used the allied .50 cals, 13mm german, 20mm german ammo against them and the result is always the same:  the airmen are happily smiling whilst going down in flames.

Is this a lack of death animation/position/blood?  Or they are indeed immortal?
