  1. I'd settle for anything that gives me direct feedback on G-load between nothin and greying out. So I can better judge where I am on the E-M. I like the idea of a cuff. Business opportunity. But there needs to be a non-peripheral alternative for poor folk. Subtle frame stress noises, changes in breathing, creaking leather or rubbing restraint straps. Info-bar is a bit much. A bit more immersive compromise. Imagine flying a warbird with no wind noise. Sure, you can look at the dial, or info-bar. You can fly like that, but it would feel something was missing. Some dimension of the simulation wasn't being conveyed. I don't think it would be any gamier than having show controls position overlay.
  2. Oh good. I'll look again. I s till think it would be a good option. Hard to guess based on visual clues like alt or speed or pitch when you are in a turn fight looking behind you. You'd jsut feel it rather than have to take eyes off to go look at dash. [Edit] Found it thanks.
  3. I think there should be an option to show a G-load up in the corner. It's not something you can guess visually like speed or alt. You'd feel it in our butt. And it is often vital to know to push the envelope. I've seen it shot down by mods saying they won't add anything that "gamey" just read it off the hud. I can't find any such hud on the P-51 and not a G-meter in the cockpit. Does a pony have a G-meter on the dash?
  4. I suspect part of the decision making here is to fill in some PTO content so a potential ultra-graphics, high-fidelity competitor like something made by a former producer for another sim I can't mention doesn't have a completely unfilled niche to exploit and get a toe-hold in. Strangle them in the crib. Don't just leave them an easy-in-road to exploit. I suspect ETO will have to wait until they feel safe on that front. Then I'd guess Battle of Britain. Lastly, someday, maybe if all the rest goes well, they might back and continue to flesh out Oleg's Normandy and beyond plane-Set. All conjecture of course. Meanwhile, the other sim you mentioned appears to be abandoning WWII and going off to Korea. SMDH. <S>
  5. At some point when the Corsair and F6F are being offered for sale, it would be a relevant question for buyers if the WWII genre is going to be supported by ED or relegated to second class citizenship while still priced as a first class product. Helos are also not modern jets, but receive a lot more attention than the WWII stuff. One view might be, buy our $70 new planes to prove to us the WWII ecosystem is worth supporting. Another view might be, prove to me first you have intentions of supporting the WWII ecosystem before I buy another couple of $70 modules. Perspective is everything.
  6. Poked my head in to check my in to check the server and there were 11 guys in there. They looked to be having fun. Somehow screwed up part of the sound but not going to redo it. Just some Sat afternoon fun up in the Cold Blue.
  7. I was doing some tests the other day with a ZSU emplacement. I can't say it effected accuracy, but night did did reduce the engagement range by almost half. So maybe engagement range is effected, but not accuracy when it does fire. Of course this only effects optical \ iron sites weapons. I am assuming we aren't expecting any differences in something radar or thermal directed.
  8. I've found if I want to tune in the AI to a level I feel is reasonable I use a combination of skill level combine with full fuel load compared to my 1/2 load. If necessary, I will weight them down with drop tanks and bombs and set jettison restriction so they have to fight with that extra weight. I can then slowly peel off stuff when ever I want to increase the difficulty. Silly I have to do that, but it does work well in my spit against an AI spit.
  9. I'd pay $50 for a WWII pack of 20 AI planes plus other stuff like tanks and boats backfilling PTO and ETO. Seems like a good 3rd party opportunity.
  10. Do you mean the 109k is uber when the AI flies it? Or are you saying you bought or have trialed and you flying it seem UFO? AI cheats. Any weirdness there is just cheating AI physics which are only vaguely related to our universe. If you have specific doubts about the human player FM, narrowing that down to a big item or two might help someone evaluate that. BTW, if you are basing that just on the AI, you can 1 week trial the 109 and try it hands on to see if it seems legit. $0.02
  11. Steam charts show it having 30 day average of 22 players, DCS 30 day is 1,184. The other is not the future. It is the past and receding quickly in the rearview. That says nothing about which DCS projects should be done in what order or how long it will take. However the main point I was addressing, just because some sim, 5, 10, 15 ,30 years ago did the Battle of Britain, in no way makes that non-viable for DCS to do. Everything WWII related has been done by some sim at some point in the past. Including PTO, ETO and Bodenplatte and Eastern Font. That doesn't make those non-viable for DCS either. Past that, we're done here. Enjoy your Sunday.
  12. Nonsense. It exactly proves my point. That other game is barely being supported and only by volunteers. The last time I tried it it was still a hot mess and I waited a year for the VR support that was just around the corner and 4-5 years later it still hasn't arrived. Whatever old, marginally supported games can achieve is pale comparison to what DCS could. The excuse that DCS shouldn't do BoB because it had already been done in other sims, is what I was replying to. Of course that other game can't compare to DCS. That is exactly why it would be awesome to see BoB implemented in DCS. Those old, barely supported games are not a replacement for what DCS could achieve. Old games limping along with volunteer support is great for nostalgia, but it is not the future. The future is DCS. I didn't say that wouldn't require work. It's going to take work to make a PTO or Bodenplatte, or anything else. Besides, Nick Grey wants it, so sooner or later we will get a DCS BoB. And it will be awesome.
  13. Nonsense. The point I was making is that the idea that a DCS BoB should be discarded because "it has been done before", is not rational. So has PTO. So has Eastern Front. Etc, etc, etc. You mentioned Bodenplatte. Seems I've heard that one done elsewhere before too. The only relevant point would be if it had been done already in DCS, which of course it hasn't.
  14. So depending on your definitions of quality: Graphics, no. Sound, no. Flight model, no. VR supported, no. AS a consumer, I don't care how big or small their team is. I only care about results. I don't grade on a curve. But can we agree that BoB shouldn't be discarded "because it has been done before"? So has PTO. Aces of the Pacific was one of my first games. Sorry, ED. Drop the idea of PTO, it's been "done before". But I get it. ED is dropping ETO to revector to PTO probably to strangle Combat Pilot in the crib and not leave it an unfulfilled niche. Not a bad strategy. Regardless. DCS Battle of Britain would be awesome, IMHO.
  15. So as to my questions, I can assume your answers are, no it is not up to DCS quality, and no it hasn't released VR support? What I was replying to was the idea that BoB should be excluded because it had been "done before". I agree their dev cycle is a bit obscene, but not a single PTO specific aircraft has been released yet either. And you can make the argument that PTO "has been done before", so that can't really be a useful criteria. For BoB, initially all you would need is a Hurricane, Spit, and Emil. Everything else could start out as a AI asset which should not be hard to knock up some decent external models.
  16. As it stands now, is CloD a match for DCS in quality? Does the VR work yet in CloD? I think a fleshed out BoB module implemented with DCS quality would be extraordinary fun.
  17. But has it been done well, enough? Clod was a hot mess. And a long time ago. Anything in this decade?
  18. I’m running a fun simple bomber escort\intercept mission on my server for a week or so to celebrate Masters of the Air FINALLY being release. I can hardly believe it. You are all invited to come have some fun. Learn more: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/342535-masters-of-the-air-server/#comment-5372164 <S>, CptTrips
  19. Are you on the latest OB patch?
  20. I’ve been waiting sooo long for Masters of the Air to come out that I got the urge to do a thing, so I made a simple little mission in honor of the event. A simple bomber escort\intercept mission. I got the idea from some AI missions I had made for a guy named Nefarious over on another sim in their mission editor a couple of years ago. So I thought it would be a good learning to replicate something similar in the DCS mission editor and to practice my Moose scripting. AI bombers follow a route to a target. One side protects them, one side tries to prevent them from reaching their destination. Easy peazy. Lemon sqeezie. The target is an airfield near Paris. I looked it up and the 100th BG actually did do some missions in the Paris area, so it is not completely off base, but this is not intended to be a reenactment of any particular historical mission. I’ll run it for a while if anyone is interested. Anyway, I hope some of you get to try it, have some fun with it. See you up in the Dark Blue. -CptTrips ***Read briefing below to understand time stamped spawns. “Masters of the Air: Redfor\Bluefor” vox channels here: https://discord.gg/dSGtQDy2FQ (This mission was inspired by the coming release of Masters of the Air limited series on AppleTV. However I don’t have a Germany map, nor the right skins, nor perhaps the correct aircraft. This is not a historical scenario, but hopefully will provide some of the flavor of protecting bombers to their target or trying to stop them. More “homage” than “reenactment” of anything from the book or series.) A group of 36 B-17 bombers have formed over East Anglia and are en route to bomb a strategic airbase outside of Paris, France. From mission start at 0900 hrs, to the arrival over target at 1000 hrs, the mission will take no more than 60 minutes. The intended bomber route is marked on the F10 map (See briefing image 1). Time hacks are noted on the path that will approximate where the bomber formation can be found at any given increment of mission time. Or at least close enough for a tally. Air spawn (sorry the intent is to maintain a combat cadence- I want players in the fight not slowly climbing up to 28000 ft) for escorts and interceptors are at appropriate distances. Note briefing image 2. The group name for each spawn is encoded with the mission time that spawn becomes available. The spawns are time-staggered and placed along the route so that both sides can join\re-join the fight quickly at any point during the mission. The idea is to facilitate a continuous rolling battle following along the bombers all the way to their drop point at T+60 min (1000hrs). So if you come in the server and the current mission time is 0935 hrs, you can spawn at anything with that time mark or earlier. You can spawn from an earlier location if needed, but it will take more time to re-join the formation. So in this case of a current mission time of 0935 hrs, you could spawn with a group named “(0935 hrs or later)-10” or “(0920 hrs or later)-6” or “(0915 hrs or later)-3” etc... (*Pro Tip: While in spectator mode before spawning, you can escape out and go look at the F10 map. Note the mission time on the F10 map upper right corner. Review the marked bomber path and estimate where the bombers currently are by interpolating between time hash marks, then go to select roles and pick a spawn with the appropriate specified time. If it is close, you can spawn in a slot that is not enabled yet and wait until it is time and you will auto spawn in then.) Spits will be available at spawns close to the English coast but not at later spawns. FW 190-A8 and FW 190-D will be carrying rockets. If you prefer, I have set up temporary voice channels on the Helo-Ops Discord. Look for the “Masters of the Air” category and you will find Redfor and Bluefor tactical voice channels. https://discord.gg/65XKM3E7te Victory Conditions: Bluefor – Arrive at the target at 1000hrs with at least 50% of bombers remaining (i.e. at least 18 bombers still alive). Redfor – Destroy more than 50% of the bomber force before it arrives over target, forcing the mission to be aborted (i.e. kill at least 19 bombers). After a Redfor or Bluefor victory, the mission will restart back to it’s initial state and repeat. Good luck, and good hunting.
  21. Actually I was wrong. I see DCS reporting the event, but sometimes it does or does not reach my registered handler (I have a log statement at the top of that). Well I'm clueless but wanted to eliminate slmod as a variable. Thanks.
  22. I am getting this on a DCS cloud server install: :Config (Main): Call error world.onEvent:[string "-- slmod world events hook..."]:377: bad argument #2 to 'tonumber' (base out of range) Is that a normal thing? I am having a bizarre problem that occasional I will stop getting crash events I registers for though Moose. Then the server will finish the mission and restart and sometimes it works the next time, sometimes not. The above error is the only thing that looks suspicious in the log. Could a problem in SLMod possibly effect Moose forwarding me a crash event? Otherwise I am confused. Does my provider need to update SLMod? [edit] THis is from the slmod.log 41.317 SLMOD WARNING: Unable to start active units database, slmod.activeUnitsBase does not exist. 41.318 SLMOD ERROR: unable to retreive events from server environment, reason: [string "return slmod.getNextSlmodEvents()"]:1: attempt to call field 'getNextSlmodEvents' (a nil value)
  23. Strange. Maybe clear out your log file and restart and reproduce then close and see if anything illuminating is logged? You have mods? Have you tried with a completely new mission with nothing added yet? Broken from the start with a new mission?
  24. Not to diminish your issue, but it works for me. So I doubt it is trivially broke. I assume it is not coming up on another screen or off screen? Are all the other UI buttons still active? (i.e. not blocked by a modal dialog?)
